Microsoft releases new videos for the forthcoming third-person shooter Gears of War 4, featuring gameplay from the title’s campaign mode and a sneak peek at a multiplayer map.
With San Diego Comic-Con 2016 officially beginning tomorrow, Microsoft has decided to give Gears of War 4 fans an early look at what will be playable at its booth during the event by releasing new video of for game’s campaign demo. Plus, the third-person shooter’s publisher also wanted to remind the franchise’s fans about the fun that can be had with Gears of War 4‘s multiplayer by showing off a teaser clip detailing a new map for the mode called Forge.
As seen in the first bit of footage below, Gears of War 4‘s campaign gameplay trailer features the game’s main characters JD, Del, Kait, as well as Marcus Fenix, taking on the Swarm, in addition to a gnarly storm. Per the video’s description, the leads are in pursuit of the abductors of Kait’s mother, as they press through the wilderness of Sera to find her after their village has been decimated.
According to Microsoft, the assets seen above will be a part of the playable demo at the Xbox booth for those attending the San Diego Comic-Con this week, and it will be the very first time that the public has been given the chance to experience this segment of Gears of War 4‘s campaign. Though that may be the case with this particular instance of gameplay, our hands-on preview at E3 2016 of a different story mission left us with feelings of familiarity and excitement, and the SDCC demo has the potential to imbue those impressions as well, especially with Marcus Fenix joining the fray.
As for Gears of War 4‘s new multiplayer map Forge, fans can get a better idea at its environment by checking out the footage below. It’s a pretty sizeable arena with several spots for close-quarter combat as well as more open spaces providing longer lines of sight for those who choose to keep their distance between themselves and the enemy. Fans who are attending Comic-Con get to play Versus matches in Forge should they visit Microsoft’s booth.
A SDCC panel for Gears of War 4 will also be hosted at the event on Thursday, July 21 at 2:15 PM PT with an encore featuring a special guest taking place on Friday July 22, at 5:00 PM PT. During the discussion, fans will be presented with a glimpse at Gears of War 4 from behind-the-scenes with the focus on characters and storytelling. Coalition studio head Rod Fergusson, and voice actors Liam McIntyre (JD Fenix), Eugene Byrd (Del Walker), Laura Bailey (Kait Diaz) and John DiMaggio, who has come back to voice Marcus Fenix, will be in attendance.
On top of all the Gears of War 4 news related to its presence at San Diego Comic-Con, Microsoft also released a clip that gives a rundown on the recently announced Limited Edition 2 TB Xbox One S bundle that comes with the game. Should fans wish to check out all that the $450 package has to offer, they can do so by watching the official video right here.
Considering all of these resources and more that Gears of War 4‘s publisher and developer have used to promote the sequel, it’s no wonder why the title has remained firmly within the collective consciousness of fans, and has caused many to peg it as one of the most anticipated video games of 2016. However, it remains to be seen if the final product can deliver on all of the hype’s promises.
Gears of War 4 is set to release on October 11, 2016 for PC and Xbox One.
