Fans of Epic Games have probably been counting down the days until they can get their hands on the third installment in the Gears of War series. Maybe they’ve been playing games like Shadow Complex, Unreal Tournament 3, Gears of War, and Gears of War 2 to get calm themselves until Epic finally releases Bulletstorm. People who are this dedicated to the success of Epic Games will be happy to know that their loyalty will be rewarded, but they’re going to have to spend some more money to get Gears of War 3 first.
These rewards will come in the form of exclusive content for use in Gears of War 3, according to a recent tweet from Epic Games’ Cliffy B. The unlocks will presumably become available once the Gears of War 3 game disc detects saved data from any of the previously mentioned Epic-made games. You can see Cliff Bleszinski’s exact quote below:
“Look for special unlocks in Gears 3 for those of you who have played other Epic games such as Shadow Complex, UT3, Gears, and Bulletstorm.”
This information is interesting, but what kind of unlocks could Cliff be referring to? The most likely scenario would have to be skins of some sort that corresponds to each game’s saved data for players to wear during online play, but Epic Games may go even further than that. There could be characters from their other games that can be played with online which would be way cooler than lame skins.
Whatever these “super secret unlocks” are, it’s nice to see that Cliff and the wonderful people at Epic Games are rewarding loyal fans, but people who want to enjoy all the content are going to have to spend a pretty penny in order to unlock 100% of the game. However, odds are that people who really care about unlocking everything will already own a majority of these splendid titles.
[UPDATE: It appears that these unlocks will be available to everyone, and that even includes those who’ve never played previous Epic games. According to Joystiq, who contact Epic Games, Bleszinski meant that people who have played the other games will recognize these unlocks and “get a little more excitement out of it.”
On top of this news, another Epic Games will have a few cameo unlocks and it may come as a surprise to some. ChAIR’s latest game, Infinity Blade, will be represented inside of Gears 3. It’s nice to see that Epic will be bringing the full game to every individual who purchases Gears of War 3, and we only know what a relief it is to see Epic avoid taking the route that spawned all of those damn hats in Team Fortress 2.]
Gears of War 3 is set to launch chainsaw your face sometime in Q4 2011 due to some disappointing delays.
