Gears of War 3 Multiplayer Video

Gears of War 3 is easily one of the most anticipated games of this year, and with good reason. Game Rant’s very own Trung Bui got to go hands-on with Gears of War 3 multiplayer at a special Microsoft press event, and gave us all his first impressions of how the sequel is stacking up so far, in addition to passing on some comments from Epic’s Rod Fergusson.

Fergusson hinted earlier this week that big news was on its way, which was followed up later that day with a reveal that Gears of War 3 would be arriving in September. Yesterday’s press event was also accompanied with the news that fans would be able to vote for which maps they’d like to see in the multiplayer beta due in mid-April.

Here now for our entertainment is the first look at Gears of War 3 multiplayer action in, well, action. Please note, Gears of War 3 is an M rated game, and this footage is intended for mature audiences only.

The game, in traditional Gears of War style, still looks absolutely incredible. The video focuses on the King of the Hill multiplayer mode, evidenced by the COG and Locust counters present in the top left corner of the screen. New features present in the gameplay video include a new Tac-Com navigation system that makes COGs glow blue and Locusts glow red, and gives a sort of x-ray vision view of the map. Points appear on screen with every kill, no doubt a feature of the new experience system which will be making its debut in Gears of War 3.

Gears of War 3 Thrashball Map

Those with sharp eyes will notice that the size of the aiming reticule grows when firing an automatic weapon, reducing the accuracy of continued fire. One part of the trailer shows a Locust being squashed by a falling structure, which is actually the display from the Trashball multiplayer map. This might indicate that environments will be semi-destructible this time around, adding another new element not seen in previous iterations of the franchise.

The Gears of War 3 multiplayer beta is due to hit sometime mid-April, bringing everyone together for yet another gorefest that will no doubt leave us dying in wait for September after it’s all over.

Gears of War 3 is going to take over our lives when it comes to the Xbox 360 on September 20, 2011.
