Despite its official release date not being until September 10, many have unlocked access to Gears 5 early via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Reviews for Gears 5 indicate that it is one of the best entries in the franchise, likely meaning old and new fans alike will be ready to dive into all that it has to offer, including its multiplayer. The Coalition's latest cover shooter already has a ton of offerings in this department, but it seems there are more extended plans.

Shortly after the early access period for Gears 5 went live, the official website for the game was updated with information concerning Operations. These seem to be the Gears-equivalent of seasons, as Operations will be updated quarterly and include a ton of new free content for players to explore. The current Operation is set to last until December, at which point Operation 2 will begin.

Concerning the current operation, Gears 5 notes how there will be three new Tour of Duty objectives every day. Every week, there will be a new featured Escape Hive, new rewards based on division rank, and new customization content added to the Supply and Store. Every month, there will be continuous QOL updates, and October will see the first Character roster update which will introduce new COG heroes for Versus, Horde, and Escape. October will also play host to a Special Event, including something for Halloween.

Beyond that, Operations will see a refreshed Gears 5 Tour of Duty system with brand new earnable rewards, and more characters (like the aforementioned COG heroes) will be added to the game, each with their own unique abilities and skills. Operations, beginning with Operation 2, will also add new modes to the game, as well as new arenas for Versus and Horde.

The overall focus of Operations will also be to expand upon current major features and make sure Gears 5 players always have something to do. In other words, these are ambitious approaches which are focused on keeping players coming back to something new and fresh.

Gears 5 launches on September 10 for PC and Xbox One.
