The full list of nominations for the GDC 2017 Choice Awards is announced, with Overwatch and Inside up for Game of the Year, as well as many other categories.

Over the course of 2016, a huge number of fantastic video games were released. Already, many of these games have been on the receiving end of awards for their endeavours, as shown by The Game Awards 2016, where Overwatch picked up the top prize of Game of the Year. As it turns out, Blizzard's hugely popular shooter will have a chance to add to its accolades, with multiple nominations at the GDC 2017 Choice Awards.

The nominations for the awards have just been announced, courtesy of GDC itself, and Overwatch is up for Game of the Year once more. As well as this, the shooter has been nominated for Best Audio, Best Design, Best Technology, and Best Visual Art. It's a truly great testament to the game, which has found itself plenty of fans among critics and gamers alike.

However, Overwatch is far from the only game that is up for multiple nominations for the 17th GDC Awards. Playdead's acclaimed title Inside is also going for Game of the Year, as well as Best Audio, Best Design, the Innovation Award, Best Narrative, and Best Visual Art. Meanwhile, Firewatch, another of the best indie games of 2016, has also received plenty of nominations, with potential wins in Game of the Year, Best Debut, the Innovation Award, Best Narrative, and Best Visual Art.

Nintendo will also be pleased with the number of its franchises being nominated, with three games up for the Best Mobile/Handheld Game alone. The Niantic-developed mobile title Pokemon GO is going up against Pokemon Sun and Moon, as well as Super Mario Run. Pokemon GO has also been nominated for the Innovation Award and Best VR/AR Game.

The nominees will not have long to wait to find out whether they are winners, with the GDC Awards due to take place on Wednesday, March 1st, 2017. The awards form part of the 2017 Game Developers Conference, which is located at the San Francisco Moscone Center, and will be hosted by Tim Schafer of Double Fine Productions.

As well as the awards themselves, the conference will also hold a number of fascinating panels for those interested in the creation of video games. One such example is a panel focused on Prompto from Final Fantasy XV, which will revolve around the auto-snapshot feature and how to create "emotional AI." Meanwhile, there will likely be some fun reveals on the cards, as shown by last year's announcement of Obsidian's Tyranny.
