Disney Game has officially announced the development of Gargoyles Remastered. Today's Disney & Marvel Games Showcase delivered announcement after announcement. Some viewers may even have blinked and missed the reveal of Gargoyles Remastered, which was stuck between longer segments for Return to Monkey Island and the newly announced Disney Mirrorverse. The original Gargoyles was first released in 1995 for the Sega Genesis. The game was based on the animated television show of the same name and closely followed the show's plot. It was developed by Disney Interactive, the same studio that made other Sega Genesis adaptations including Disney's Aladdin, Pinocchio, Pocahontas, and Toy Story. It was, at the time, considered a strong release for the Sega Genesis but has largely been forgotten in the years since.RELATED: First Disney Lorcana Trading Cards Unveiled at D23Very little information has been shared regarding Gargoyles Remastered so far. What has been confirmed is that it's being developed for PC and modern consoles, and that's about it. The announcement didn't even feature gameplay of the remaster, instead showing six seconds of gameplay from the original game. Disney did acknowledge a memorable screaming audio file played when Gargoyles protagonist Goliath throws a Viking from the top of Castle Wyvern, which does imply a degree of dedication to authenticity.

There is some further information that can be speculated, based on Disney's announcement of Gargoyles Remastered. Disney mentions Gargoyles Remastered is a part of the company's Disney Classic Games Collection, which includes The Jungle Book, Aladdin, and The Lion King. These three remasters were bundled together and released for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One with updated 1080p visuals. They also featured a special Watch Mode feature that allows players to rewind or fast-forward gameplay. These are likely features that can be expected of Gargoyles Remastered as well, but that has yet to be confirmed.

The announcement of Gargoyles Remastered is timely. In July, Disney and Dynamite Entertainment announced a continuation of the cult classic cartoon in the form of a new comic. The comic is being described as a new "season" of Gargoyles and is even being made with input from Gargoyles creator Greg Weisman. The comic is set to be released in late 2022.

For Gargoyles fans, this is a great opportunity to revisit a classic game that's otherwise unavailable in 2022. It's also an opportunity to let Disney know whether Gargoyles still has a fanbase anymore. While attempts to reboot Gargoyles have struggled to gain a footing, a successful remastered video game and comic could go a long way to help.

Gargoyles Remastered is currently in development.
