The Pokemon Company is currently celebrating Pokemon Sword and Shield by rolling out free codes for the games' Legendary Pokemon. Pokemon fans will be able to get free codes for shiny Zacian and Zamazenta at GameStop without needing to purchase something, but some are experiencing setbacks.

According to some Pokemon Sword and Shield fans in several countries, GameStop is requiring that customers purchase something in order to receive the free shiny Zacian that's currently being offered through a promotion. Joe Merrick, the mind behind the definitive Pokemon web page known as Serebii recently stated on his Twitter account that no purchases are required for the shiny Zacian. Merrick said that stores requiring a purchase in order to distribute the shiny Zacian code are making false claims.

Joe Merrick went on to implore Pokemon fans from around the world not to let GameStop employees insist that a purchase is required in order to gain the Zacian codes. While some responses to Merrick expressed enthusiasm and gratefulness for his tweet, some showed that they even received multiple Zacian codes. Most Pokemon fans responding to Merrick stated that they didn't experience any issues getting their codes, while others took the opportunity to criticize GameStop.

Pokemon Masters from all over the world will be able to get the shiny Zacian and Zamazenta codes, with GameStop offering Zacian until November 11. Once the Zacian promotion is done, Pokemon fans will have access to a shiny Zamazenta from November 12 until November 26. Zamazenta will replace Zacian a little sooner in Canada, with shiny Zacian only available until November 4.

Pokemon fans outside of areas with GameStop will still have access to the free shiny Legendaries at game stores nearby. Gamers in the UK and Spain will be able to acquire the free Pokemon at GAME, while players in France will gain these codes at Micromania. Pokemon players in Belgium and the Netherlands can get their shiny Pokemon codes at GameMania and there are a number of gaming stores in Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.

GameStop is no stranger to running promotions for Pokemon games that rewards players with free rare Pokemon. Included among the previous promotion Pokemon are Celebi, Latios, Latias, Mega Gengar, and Tornadus. The ongoing promotion that will run through October and into November celebrates the current generation of Pokemon before the release of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Zacian and Zamazenta are the two Legendary Dogs from Pokemon Sword and Shield and the free promotion allows Pokemon fans to have both Legendaries on both versions of the current generation.

Pokemon Sword and Shield are available right now for Nintendo Switch.
