The recent Sony PlayStation 5 showcase finally revealed the two things everyone wanted to know about the next-generation console: its release date and its price. Now that the information is available, GameStop has announced that it's taking pre-orders for the gaming system starting on September 16 and that it will continue to do so while supplies last.

Any buyers interested in securing a PlayStation 5 as close to its launch as possible will want to strongly consider making a pre-order. Multiple reports claim that Sony may have trouble keeping up with the PlayStation 5's demand. In other words, once the console sells out, it may be some time before it hits shelves again.

Those interested in pre-ordering can do so at GameStop's website or mobile app. They can also pre-order by going to their local brick-and-mortar store. However, it's important to note that the coronavirus pandemic is still going on as of this writing, so those choosing to physically set up a pre-order should prepare for dealing with crowds. GameStop is also running a new service that will deliver the consoles and other goods to customers' homes the same day it was ordered or the day it releases.

Because of the high demand for the PlayStation 5, buyers will only be allowed to pre-order one console per household, and they'll only be able to choose one version of the console. This means that buyers can only have the Standard Edition PlayStation 5, or the Digital Edition PlayStation 5, which cost $499.99 and $399.99, respectively. Once they choose one, they can't pick the other.

GameStop is also taking pre-orders for the Xbox Series X, which costs $499.99, and the Xbox Series S, which costs $299.99. These consoles follow the same rule as the PlayStation: only one pre-order allowed, and only for one version of the console. Pre-orders for these systems won't begin until September 22.

Buyers of either the PlayStation or the Xbox will be able to pre-order games and accessories while pre-ordering their consoles. GameStop has the full list of items available for pre-order on its site, so buyers can browse for what they want. It's important to note that the Xbox Series items also won't be available for pre-order until September 22.

In the US, both versions of the PlayStation 5 release on November 12, 2020, and November 19 in other countries. As for the Xbox Series, both versions of the console release on November 10, 2020. It took a little time for Sony and Microsoft to announce or confirm the price and release dates of the Xbox Series and the PlayStation 5, but the wait is finally over.
