Retailer GameStop is no doubt counting on the upcoming launches of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X to give its business a much-needed boost. So it's no surprise that GameStop is getting a jump on promoting the next-generation consoles, launching a page where users can sign up to be immediately notified when PS5 pre-orders go live. However, this page has also confirmed some of the PS5's biggest features.

According to the GameStop page, the PS5 will have support for 8k TVs, an 8-core AMD chipset, 3D audio, SSD storage, ray tracing capabilities, and backward compatibility with PS4 and PlayStation VR. These features have been hinted at or announced by Sony in the past, but not all of them have necessarily been confirmed in an official capacity. As it stands, Sony has kept relatively tight-lipped about the PS5, having yet to reveal the console's design, price, release date, or offer any deep dive into its new features.

The GameStop page has led some to believe that one big rumored PS5 feature isn't actually going to materialize with the new console. Previously, it was rumored that the PS5 would be backward compatible with PS1, PS2, and PS3 along with PS4. If that's the case, GameStop does not appear to be aware of it. Fans should keep their expectations in check and not get excited about any potential PS5 features until an official reveal from Sony.

As for when the official PS5 reveal will happen, that remains to be seen. Previous rumors pegged the PS5 reveal for February, but that does not seem like it's going to happen. Now the prevailing theory is that Sony will reveal the PS5 at some point in March, but the company has not made any announcement yet. While it's certainly possible that a PS5 reveal will indeed come in March, it's just as likely that Sony will hold off on revealing the new console until later in the year.

One reason why Sony may hold off on revealing the PS5 is because there are some factors about it that Sony itself has yet to nail down. For example, it's possible that the PS5 price has yet to be decided, let alone its release date, and Sony may be looking to hammer out those details before making a public reveal. It's also possible that Sony is waiting to have more PS5 games to show off alongside the console before it's shown off.

Whatever the case may be, here's hoping the PS5 price, release date, launch games, and more revealed to PlayStation fans sooner rather than later.
