GameStop Announces 2 Exclusive Cars for Gran Turismo 5

To those gamers who’ve been waiting for Gran Turismo 5, now there’s extra motivation to reserve your copy at GameStop. A quick look at the game's page on GameStop.com shows that pre-ordering will get you two exclusive cars to use in-game: a McLaren F1 and the GameStop NASCAR Nationwide Car.

GameStop is the second retailer to offer exclusive cars for reserving the game. Amazon is offering a Mercedes-Benz SLS Stealth for all those who reserve the game through the online retailer.

The McLaren F1 Stealth Model has a carbon fiber body, sports weight reduction, and is specially tuned for “increased performance.” The GameStop NASCAR Nationwide car will feature all of the details that you’ll see on Joey Logano’s real #20 GameStop car. Amazon’s Mercedes-Benz SLS Stealth model’s stats haven’t been revealed yet, but it will feature the same black “stealth” paint job that the McLaren F1 has. Customers who pick up their games in store will receive a download code when they pick up their copies, and those who order online will be emailed their code.

Now that two major retailers have announced their exclusive add-ons, we can expect places like Best Buy and Wal-Mart to announce exclusive add-ons soon. This brings up the question: are exclusive add-ons from retailers a good thing for gamers?

This is trend is obviously good for the retailers, forcing customers to pick a specific store to purchase their games at based on the added content. However, this puts gamers who buy from retailers without add-ons behind the curve before they even remove the plastic wrap from their game. This removes skill from the games and allows people to buy their way to the top of the leader boards.

Are you going to pre-order Gran Turismo 5 in order to get one of these exclusive cars? And do you think that Exclusive add-on content is a dangerous trend in gaming? Let us know in the comments.

Barring any delays, you can drive these exclusive cars, or any of the other 1000 included cars, when Gran Turismo 5 hits the PlayStation 3 on November 2, 2010.
