Gamescom is the next major gaming event of 2020 and the digital convention kicks off on August 27 with the 2-hour Gamescom Opening Night Live presentation. This past week Gamescom ONL host Geoff Keighley ignited fans' excitement for the event by promising over 20+ games being featured in the event. But apparently that was a vast underestimation, as Keighley has now updated that total to 38 total games.

In a tweet posted Sunday afternoon, Keighley confirmed some of the plans the team has for Gamescom. These details were just finalized as the team is doing rehearsals for Opening Night Live. The show is being shot live from a studio in Los Angeles with no live audience, which is fairly being criticized by some due to COVID-19 concerns. The run time remains 2 hours long, but the content has been boosted from 20+ games to 38. That's going to be a very packed two hours.

Only two games have been confirmed for Gamescom ONL at this point in time. Those two games being Fall Guys and Doom Eternal. The second season of Fall Guys is going to be revealed, which is expected to include a variety of new stages and cosmetics. But maybe Mediatonic has some surprises, too. As for Doom Eternal, Keighley says that fans can expect a first look at the game's campaign expansion The Ancient Gods, Part One.

One additional detail that Keighley makes clear about Gamescom ONL is that while there will be game announcements during the show, it's not the focus of the event. The show is "primarily focused on updates from announced titles." That doesn't mean that viewers shouldn't be excited, however, as Gamescom ONL 2019 featured a ton of major games and it's looking like Gamescom 2020 is going to strive to overachieve.

Gamescom Opening Night Live 2020 airs on August 27 and will start at 11:00 am PT/2:00 pm ET.
