Next week, one of the most exciting events of the year airs to kick off Gamescom 2021. Geoff Keighley's Gamescom Opening Night Live started in 2019, a keynote event for the convention that was packed with new game reveals, announcements, and plenty of other surprises. Keighley is bringing ONL back for Gamescom's hybrid digital/in-person event for 2021 and excitement is already growing. To help build the hype for Gamescom ONL 2021, Keighley's now dropped a teaser trailer.

The Keighley "Hype Trailer" is something he's done for most of his hosted events over the past several years. It does what the name implies, showcasing a ton of recent and upcoming game releases overlaid with several clips of dramatic video game dialogue and audio. There're two clear goals with the Gamescom ONL hype trailer. First, to get people excited not just about Gamescom but about video games in general. Second, to get people curious about what games might be shown this year.

This year's Gamescom ONL hype trailer shows off a huge variety of games. Games that received special attention during the hype trailer include Far Cry 6, Psychonauts 2, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Death Stranding Director's Cut, and some indistinct Battlefield and Call of Duty footage. Also shown, at least briefly, were Fall Guys, Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania, The Artful Escape, Riders Republic, Forza Horizon 5, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, Back 4 Blood, Demon Slayer - Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles, and many other games.

Those who might be persuaded to think Keighley just cut together clips from trailers leftover from the Summer Game Fest will be surprised to hear these are all games confirmed for Gamescom ONL. The official Twitter account for Gamescom responded to Keighley sharing the new hype trailer, stating these games will all be featured.

Of course, what's most exciting about reveal events like Gamescom ONL are the games that they can't tease as part of a hype trailer. The hype trailer shows off games that have already been announced. There will be plenty of new game announcements, including a new Saints Row, as well.

Those whose interest has been piqued by Keighley's Gamescom ONL hype trailer can look forward to the event this next week. Gamescom Opening Night Live will air on Wednesday, August 25, at 11:00 AM PT/2:00 PM PT. It'll be two hours long and feature over 30 different games, and then Gamescom itself will last through August 27.
