For a series that has been been a part of videogame culture for around 38 years the Star Wars, there aren’t that many truly great Star Wars titles. Yet, the ones that are really good are considered true classics. It’s a series that is tailored made for videogames the music, the special effects, the epic battles in space or on the ground is something special when it’s done right in videogame form.

Taking inspiration from the FromSoftware titles Dark Souls and Sekiro: Shadows Died Twice developers Respawn Entertainment has created a title that is worthy of the Star Wars name in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. However, like all good games, the experience does come to an end but the fun doesn’t have to. Let’s take a look at ten games that players should love if they enjoyed Fallen Order.

10 Star Wars: Republic Commando

Star Wars: Republic Commando was released on the PlayStation 3, Xbox and PC in 2005. The game was developed by LucasArts and its story was set during the climactic battle at the end of Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones.

Republic Commando is a tactical first-person shooter that centers on the lead character Boss and his squadmates Scorch, Fixer and Sev. Like Rainbow Six the game allows the player to execute commands to the protagonist’s teammates in battle.

9 The Surge I and II

surge 2 review

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has been referred to as a something of a Souls-like game with its Metroidvania style levels and Mediation circles that function the same way as the Dark Souls Bonfires.

Of course, Fallen Order isn’t the only science fiction-based game to use the Dark Souls formula. Released in 2017 Deck 13’s The Surge is a brutally tough sci-fi Souls-like with its own unique atmosphere and target-based combat. The game’s fighting system lets players target their enemy’s limbs and dismember them with satisfying slow-motion finishers just like Fallen Order.

8 Star Wars: Bounty Hunter

Star Wars: Bounty Hunter was released in 2002 for the PlayStation 2 and GameCube but was released again in 2015 on the PlayStation Store for the PS3 and PS4. It was developed by LucasArts and is a third-person action-adventure game that is centered around Jango Fett.

Jango Fett is the father of the clone Boba Fett and the game’s timeline is set before Star Wars: Episode II – The Clone Wars. Fett is commissioned by Darth Tyrannus to hunt down the Dark Jedi Komari Vosa. The game explains the origins of Boba Fett and explains where the Slave I ship came from. Now that The Mandalorian impressing audiences on Disney+ there's never been a more apt time to play Star Wars: Bounty Hunter.

7 Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Developed by FromSoft the same studio responsible for the Dark Souls series, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is another Souls-like that has a lot in common with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Shadows Die Twice puts the players in the shoes of a Samurai during 16th century feudal Japan.

6 Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy was released in 2003 on the Xbox, PC and the Mac. The game is also going to get a port for the Nintendo Switch and the PlayStation 4 in 2020. The game was developed by LucasArts and published by Activision.

The game follows Jedi apprentice Jaden Korr and the player gets to choose the character’s gender and appearance. In addition, players will also be able to construct their own lightsaber just like a Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order.

5 Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast

It was originally released on the PlayStation 2, GameCube and PC and was ported on the Nintendo Switch and PS4 in 2019.

The game centers on the protagonist Kyle Katarn a former Stormtrooper and the student of Luke Skywalker before he becomes a Jedi Master too. However, just like every book and game that was released before Disney acquired the Star Wars rights the Jedi Knight series is no longer canon.

4 The Dark Souls Trilogy

Released in 2011 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 FromSoft’s Dark Souls is a spiritual sequel the PlayStation 3 exclusive Demon’s Souls. The Dark Souls games have more flexible RPG mechanics as well as different character classes. However, those that love the challenging gameplay mechanics featured Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will love Dark Souls. Furthermore, the series is a masterclass in level design and environmental storytelling.

3 Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PSP, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, and the PC in 2008. The game’s story centers on a character called Starkiller who was Darth Vader’s secret apprentice.

The Force Unleashed is set between Revenge of the Sith and a New Hope and is now a non-canonical story that shows the origins of the Rebel Alliance and Starkiller’s redemption from a Sith apprentice to a Jedi that fights for the light. It also received a sequel in 2010 The Force Unleashed II but the game was critically panned for being unfinished and too short.

2 Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic II

Released in 2004, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords is a sequel to the BioWare-developed original that was released in 2003. The game was developed by Obsidian who later released Pillars of Eternity and this year’s The Outer Worlds.

Knights of the Old Republic II is a great RPG that doesn’t quite reach the heights of its predecessor because of the pressure Obsidian was under to complete development in time for its release date. Despite this, the game is still one of the best Star Wars games ever made and develops well until its abrupt ending.
