Alien: Isolation is considered by many gamers to be one of the best horror games of the last decade. Its atmosphere and use of the Xenomorph are well-regarded by many gamers, especially survival horror fans. It's unknown if Alien: Isolation will ever get a sequel, but fortunately, there might be some other horror titles that can scratch that same itch for fans. The unnerving ambiance of Alien: Isolation is difficult to match, but thankfully for fans of the game, some titles do come close to replicating it.

Over time, Alien: Isolation became a cult hit among fans of the franchise and horror games. The Xenomorph's AI has been lauded by critics and fans alike for its unpredictable nature. While the game isn't without its flaws, it's been regarded as one of the best survival experiences of recent years. Fans would love to see an Alien: Isolation sequel, but there has been no official word on a follow-up. Though a sequel might never happen, fans can play these already-released titles instead for some more fear-driven gameplay.

The Outlast Series

Outlast - Other Horror Games That Needs Films

Similar to Alien: Isolation, the Outlast games are highly rated horror games from the last console generation. Outlast 1 and are similar to Alien: Isolation in that the protagonist is helpless against the main antagonists, and there's more of a focus on running and hiding from them than there is on fighting back. The Outlast games focus more on jump scares rather than intricate puzzle solving, which fans of Alien: Isolation might find appealing. While the setting is different, Outlast creates a similar atmosphere to Alien: Isolation. There is a constant feeling of creeping dread and as though the protagonist is being preyed upon in Outlast. With a new Outlast game coming at a later point in 2021, this could be an ideal time for players to check out the horror series.

SOMA

Another similarly atmospheric horror title is SOMA. Coming from Frictional Games, the developer behind Amnesia: The Dark Descent, SOMA tasks players with investigating an underwater facility. Though SOMA doesn't use jump scares quite as much as the likes of Alien: Isolation, the game does have a consistent atmosphere of secluded terror. Like Alien: Isolation, players are thrust into a dark, gloomy scientific facility to navigate and survive. SOMA has sold very well since its release, and it is regarded as one of the best horror games of the last few years. For players seeking an uneasy atmosphere like Alien: Isolation, SOMA could be a great fit.

Dead Space

Dead Space 1 Hand

When the conversation about the scariest games of all time comes up, the original Dead Space is held in high regard. While Dead Space has a more action-oriented approach to horror, it's easy to recommend for fans of Alien: Isolation. Dead Space sees protagonist Isaac Clarke go up against vicious aliens in a spaceship setting and fighting for survival. Despite the hero being more empowered to fight the creatures, the sound design, psychological horror, and jump scares are easily on par with Alien: Isolation. Its setting, the USG Ishimura, could also feel familiar. While Dead Space might not be an exact match with Alien: Isolation, its sci-fi-themed survival horror could be enough to hook players in.

While fans are waiting to see if an Alien: Isolation sequel could happen, these games could easily fill the void of the game's brand of survival horror. Outlast is probably the most direct match in terms of atmosphere and mechanics, but SOMA and Dead Space have a lot to offer fans as well. For gamers who have completed Alien: Isolation and are looking for some new horror titles, Outlast, SOMA, and Dead Space could be the best options to play next.

Alien: Isolation is available on PC, PS3, PS4, Switch, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
