Video games seem to bring out a primal urge within people to break the boundaries of what most think is possible. This can be clearly seen by the insane speedruns people achieve, or the debilitating self-imposed challenges gamers place on themselves. Well, Redditor 1001puppys has set an amazing world record herself by getting 132,000 gamerscore in one month.
1001puppys elaborates more on her story, motivation, and method in an interview with Kotaku, but the basis of her gameplan involved buying and playing through a ton of indie games. These indie games often have some relatively easy achievements that can help rack up gamerscore quickly.
Despite this, 132,000 in one month is unheard of and completely unprecedented. Most gamers don't even have that much throughout years of playing on Xbox consoles, so for 1001puppys to get that much in a single month is incredible. To make things even more interesting, she did it all while working 40 hours a week.
1001puppys shared with Kotaku that she is an accountant, and the quarantine did not mean she would stop working. Throughout the month of March, she clocked in 40 hours a week at home working diligently, only gaming when she was off the clock. That isn't to say that she didn't have more time on her hands, as she emphasizes that she needed to spend less time getting ready for work and didn't go out nearly as much as she used to, but this isn't purely the result of her having an extra 40 hours a week to game.
Alongside combing through tons of indie games in order to rack up as high of a gamerscore as she possibly could, 1001puppys also played through some of her old favorites, including Dark Souls. This game is infamous for being incredibly challenging, but 1001puppys claims she was able to beat it and claim 1000 gamerscore in just nine and a half hours.
This effort was done in part for a contest, in which contestants paired up in teams of two to see which team could get the most points in the month of March, and by the end of it all, her team not only won, but did so with a 70,000 point lead. Since her partner scored an impressive 84,000 gamerscore in that month, she was only 14,000 points away from beating out the second-place team all on her own. This is one feat that will surely go down in gaming history, but perhaps now others will try to take the title from her.
