God of War has had a lot going on for it this year. Not only did it win the Game of the Year award, but it is also one of the most downloaded games on PS4 and most searched-for games on Google. However, considering that it follows a 2005 PS2 title by the same name, many non-gamers may not fully understand the difference between the two games.

At the very least, that seems to be the situation for one gamer this holiday season, as his mother seemingly and mistakingly bought him the wrong God of War. Whereas he asked for the latest PS4 copy of the game, he received the PS2 title. Accepting it graciously, he stumbled on to explain the difference between the two to his mother that played coy about the entire situation.

Here's where the ultimate bit of misfortune comes into play: it was all a prank. Prior to that reveal, as seen below, he went on to accept the gift, because it's the thought that counts. But his mother soon pulled out the right copy and he realized his brother was recording. In his own words, he fell for this prank "hook, line, and sinker."

There are several feelgood moments in this video. For example, one moment is when the humble son explains the console difference and how he couldn't play it, while still trying to be respectful and thankful about the situation. He even goes on to mention how it won Game of the Year in 2005, which is hilarious given that God of War PS4 won Game of the Year for 2018.

All things considered, this gamer handled the situation with grace and likely deserves that newer God of War title. But this does make us truly wonder if a God of War PS2/PS4 switcharoo has actually happened to someone this year. Hopefully, there has been enough time between the two titles that it hasn't happened, but it's not outside the realm of possibility. As time marches on and another God of War PS4 title releases, that possibility does seemingly dwindle, however.

God of War is out now, exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
