Fans of the popular fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin (with the HBO series entitled after the first book, Game of Thrones) have been awaiting further news out of Westeros, and developers Cyanide Studios have set out to appease the masses with a new trailer and several brand new screenshots.

With the Game of Thrones RPG set to release later this year, it's time for Cyanide Studios to show us why we should consider purchasing the game.

The trailer will bring players to the waterside town of Riverspring, where civil unrest has risen to brand new heights after the death Lord Sarwyck, who had kept the town in order at the helm of his family for many years. One of Game of Thrones' main characters, Alester Sarwyck, will return to Riverspring after a fifteen-year self-imposed exile, and has to consider the possibility of taking over for his father, the deceased Lord.

Let's take a look at the town of Riverspring ourselves:

While the graphics aren't the sharpest (though the trailer looked graphically superior to the previous Game of Thrones trailers), one could expect that the game will hopefully make amends around the storyline, since there's so much material and numerous established plot details to work with. Still, the trailer does a good job showing the atmosphere of Riverspring, which should play a big role in the Game of Thrones RPG.

If you're a fan of the books or television series - which we're guessing many of you may be - you're probably wondering why Riverspring doesn't sound familiar. The town is completely new to the series, despite the fact that it takes place during the same timespan as the first book. Before anyone gets too worked up, note that George R. R. Martin is supervising the direction and plot of the game, so it should stay faithful to what the series has built up Westeros to be.

However, Cyanide didn't just leave us with a trailer to whet our collective appetites, they've also release a few new screenshots. It's the first time we've had a look at health bars on enemies, and though the combat system hasn't been fully explained yet, we have to admit the outdated graphics do undermine the success of the screenshots.

Take a look for yourself:
