In a welcome surprise to Apple Arcade and Game of Thrones fans, Game of Thrones: Tale of Crows has just been announced for the service with a trailer, and the game launches today.

Based on The ever-popular HBO series, Game of Thrones: Tale of Crows tells the story of the Night's Watch, a military order dedicated to protecting the realm and guarding the wall that divides thriving kingdoms from an ancient evil. Popular locations like Castle Black will be home base as players navigate through the summer and winter. Just don't expect the likes of Sean Bean, who has been busy in another strategy series.

The real-time idle game is part of Apple's focus to increase the platform's user base. Developed by That Silly Studio, the game will have players in the role of Lord Commanders of the wall, making decisions regarding the encampment at Castle Black and sending rangers on expeditions. Players will receive messages via ravens from those sent out updating on their current tasks while multiple missions occur at once and making choices that could lead to the success or doom of the parties in the wild.

The game will tell the story of the Night's Watch 8,000 years before the time of the fantasy novels and tv series so expect plenty of content to keep players busy while the wait for The Winds of Winter continues. The official description of the game states that whatever the Rangers encounter will affect them when they return. The premise sounds quite similar to games like Darkest Dungeon where your party would suffer from various effects that could only be cured with rest or items, before allowing them to venture out again.

Game of Thrones: Tale of Crows launches on Apple Arcade today.
