Video game retailer GameStop seemed to be canceling pre-orders, prompting concerns that the company is going out of business. Those who had pre-ordered the Cyberpunk 2077 collector's edition, the Death Stranding collector's edition, and amiibo Link from The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening all say that the company has canceled their purchases.

A thread on video game forum ResetERA is filled with unhappy GameStop customers who say that their pre-orders aren't being displayed on the site. The retailer's financial troubles have been well talked about and it laid off more than 100 employees as part of a cost-cutting effort last month. Some on ResetERA had wondered if the company was cancelling the pre-orders because it knew it would be going out of business soon and so would be unable to fulfill pre-orders of products like the Cyberpunk 2077 collector's edition.

The GameStop site isn't known for its reliability but after looking at the retailer's app, pre-orders were also missing there. All of it added to fears that analyst predictions that GameStop was going out of business had been correct.

However, suggestions about GameStop's coming closure have been greatly exaggerated. The GameStop Guest Care Twitter account was asked about the issue by a customer who had pre-ordered the Borderlands 3 Super Deluxe Edition but was unable to find it on their account on the retailer's site. The Twitter account confirmed that it was just a bug with the site, saying that while "there is no estimated timeframe on when the pre-orders will reflect properly, it is "working on this feature." The company also apologized for the "inconvenience."

Many GameStop customers will be glad with the confirmation that it's an error on the company's part and that their pre-orders are intact, but some, like the person who pre-ordered Borderlands 3, aren't completely happy. "I just want to make sure that the pre order is on the system," said Twitter vHaPPy, who also asked if there's any way to see if the pre-order is on the system if it's not on the site.

Collector's editions are often created in limited quantities and end up going for huge prices on eBay so it's no surprise that some are looking for more information about this. The GameStop account said that vHaPPy could send them a direct message with their order details so that they could investigate but hopefully things will be restored and other GameStop customers won't have to go through this process too.
