Happy Friday everyone, and welcome to this week’s Game Rant Open Discussion. For those who may be new, each Friday we recap some of the biggest stories from the week, then open our comments section for our readers to discuss these and any other topics they’re interested in.
This week, we’re talking about which console claimed top sales in November, the many updates about the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, news about Tom Clancy’s The Division, and more.
PlayStation 4 Dominates November Sales
After successfully claiming top sales on Black Friday, it seems PlayStation 4 has another reason to celebrate. The Sony current-gen console claimed top sales for the whole month of November, according to market research firm NPD Group.
Sony marketing boss Eric Lempel, who announced the news, also revealed that November was the “biggest month ever” for PlayStation Store digital sales, complementing “healthy retail sales.” After such a successful month, it won’t be surprising to see PlayStation 4 round out the year by taking the top spot in December as well.
Star Wars 1313 May Not Be Dead
Way back in 2012, Star Wars fans got a glimpse of Star Wars 1313, a new game that looked like Uncharted meets Star Wars. The game held a lot of promise, and that was before we learned it was to feature Boba Fett as its hero. Sadly, when Disney acquired Lucasfilm later that year, word spread the game had been cancelled.
However, it looks like the game might not be dead after all. During an interview, Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy said her team still has the Star Wars 1313 assets, and “it’s something we’re spending a lot of time looking at, pouring through, discussing, and we may very well develop those things further.”
Even though this isn’t a sure confirmation that Star Wars 1313 is back on the table, it’s enough to reignite the fire for many Star Wars fans. Hopefully Kennedy isn’t just playing with gamers’ emotions and we’ll get to see Star Wars 1313 in some form or fashion soon.
Destiny Racing League Begins
During last week’s PlayStation Experience, a new limited-time event was announced called Sparrow Racing League. Considering Destiny fans have been requesting a Sparrow racing module since the game launched, it’s about time Bungie delivered.
As part of the announcement, Bungie revealed a new trailer for the Sparrow Racing event, which can be seen above. The event began on December 8th and runs through December 29th, so those who haven’t yet participated have a couple more weeks to do so.
PlayStation 2 Emulator Added to PlayStation 4
During the PlayStation Experience event last week, Sony announced a new PlayStation 2 emulator for PlayStation 4. The list of games isn’t long, but to the delight of many includes all PS2-era Grand Theft Auto games.
Each of the emulated games has been buffed with up-rendered 1080p visuals, Remote Play, Live Broadcast, Share Play, Activity Feeds, and Second Screen support. Additionally, full Trophy sets are available for each game.
The Division Beta Delayed to 2016
Tom Clancy’s The Division is one of the most highly-anticipated titles of 2016. Despite numerous delays, gamers are still excited for the open-world game, and thanks to an upcoming beta, gamers will have an opportunity to try a little bit of it.
Unfortunately, the beta that was supposed to go live this month has been delayed to “early 2016.” Hopefully this isn’t foreshadowing another delay of the game, which at the moment is set to release on March 8th.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Details Revealed
Since it was announced at E3, gamers have been requesting additional details about any and everything related to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and so far Square Enix has been fairly forthcoming. For instance, the game will be “told across a multi-part series.” The Square Enix team didn’t say how the game would be broken up, but did mention each entry will provide its own unique experience.
We also learned the Final Fantasy 7 Remake will include Cloud’s famous cross-dressing that many thought would be dropped this time around. While the scene has been confirmed, the Square Enix team is still working on the design, and details will likely be available when the design is decided or completed.
We invite and encourage our readers to discuss the above topics, as well as any others you would like to introduce. We simply ask that you stay civil and avoid inappropriate topics. Enjoy the discussion!
