Last night saw one of the biggest video game events of the year take place in the form of The Game Awards, a yearly showcase celebrating developers and revealing new games. Fans got a particularly great show this year, being treated to some absolutely huge new game reveals and updates. Plus, there's a Halo Infinite-sized gorilla to talk about too.

The Game Awards 2021 came out swinging with some major reveals, showing off a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre game in the opening minutes. There were tons of other surprise reveals, too, with the likes of a new Wonder Woman game, Saints Row gameplay, and another Elden Ring trailer debuting during the show. All around, it was one of the better years that the show has seen.

Or, at least, it would have been a better-than-usual year if there had been a larger emphasis on gameplay than there was on CGI trailers. CGI doesn't really speak to what a final product will be, and therefore makes it difficult to unpack what is and isn't exciting. However, the lack of gameplay is something fans have, more or less, come to expect from shows like The Game Awards, especially during the pandemic.

Besides games, there were also plenty of awards being handed out. The big winner this year was It Takes Two, which managed to bag Game of the Year. That may come as a surprise to some, as it's a smaller game than many would have anticipated winning. However, it certainly brings a lot to the table.
