Since Game of Thrones ended in 2019, HBO has been, for lack of a better term, chasing the dragon. Their first spin-off series, House of the Dragon, premieres in August 2022, serving as a prequel that shows the reign of the Targaryens in Westeros. However, more shows have been announced to be in the works.

One of these projects was recently revealed to be a sequel series featuring Jon Snow, with Kit Harington reprising his role. Little is known about what lies ahead for Jon Snow in this series, but there's certainly lots to speculate. These ten possibilities could be in the planned future of one of the show's most popular characters.

10 What's Beyond The Wall?

The last time viewers see Jon Snow is in the final moments of Game of Thrones. After being exiled back to the Night's Watch for murdering Daenerys Targaryen, Jon adorns his iconic black outfit once again. The show closes out on Jon leading a squadron of Night's Watchmen and Wildlings beyond the wall, with some uncertain mission.

It's easy to predict that whatever is in store for the Jon Snow sequel series, will explore whatever Jon is looking for north of the Wall. Perhaps there's a new mystery to be unfolded or some new characters to battle. It's even possible that Jon and his army will learn what lies beyond the northern part of Westeros's map.

9 Jon Returns To Leadership

Jon's return to the Night's Watch will likely find him assuming the role of Lord Commander once again. After all, it seems the ending of Game of Thrones implies that many are still willing to follow him after all this time. However, the last time Jon was Lord Commander, he ended up mutinied by his fellow brothers-in-arms.

Jon has grown a lot as a leader since season 5 of Game of Thrones. He successfully led an army into battle against Ramsay Bolton, reclaiming Winterfell for the Starks and being named King of the North. At the same time, he supported the conquest of Daenerys Targaryen, so it's possible his judgement will be questioned.

8 Jon's History As A Wildling

The first time Jon ventured beyond the Wall, he ended up a prisoner of the Wildlings. Soon enough, he joined their side and had his first brush with romance with Ygritte. Sadly, his time as a Wildling came to an end, eventually leading to a war between the Night's Watch and Wildlings where Ygritte died in his arms.

Maybe this new series can explore Jon's relationship to the Wildlings in a deeper way than Game of Thrones. Perhaps spending more time with Wildlings like Tormund in this series will make them feel more like his chosen family again. There's even room for a flashback with Ygritte, since Kit Harington and Rose Leslie are married.

7 Jon's Guilt Over Daenerys

Daenerys marks the second woman Jon's loved who has died in his arms. However, unlike Ygritte, Daenerys's death was by Jon's own hands. Surely, the sequel series will explore how Jon is grappling with his decision, whether he believes it was the right choice, and how Daenerys has ultimately influenced him as a leader.

Many fans would also probably be delighted to see flashbacks showing more of Jon and Daenerys's time together. Since their relationship was very brief in the two seasons they knew each other, it would be worthwhile to get more of an idea of their connection. Although, Emilia Clarke doesn't seem interested in reprising the role.

6 A New Love For Jon

Of course, maybe it's not realistic to expect this new series to find Jon still harping over his lost loves. Since both Ygritte and Daenerys are dead, the sequel series will find Jon single once again. Although the Night's Watch swears an oath of never taking a wife or having children, Jon doesn't seem like an oath keeper anymore.

His new romantic interests, in that case, could find their origins in the books. There's Val, the wife of Mance Rayder who has many flirtatious exchanges with Jon in the books. Stannis even offered to legitimize Jon and marry him to Val, though Jon turned this offer down. The series could also introduce a new character to woo Jon Snow.

5 Jon Finds Allies Both Old & New

The new series will also likely feature a cast of mostly new characters, besides the obvious returns of Jon, Tormund, and other relevant Night's Watch or Wildling characters. This means Jon will forge new friendships, allies, and enemies during his new adventure. But that also doesn't mean there isn't room for his old allies.

As of the Game of Thrones finale, Jon's former Night's Watch brother Samwell Tarly is the Grand Maester of King Bran's Small Council. Additionally, Jon's former right-hand man Davos Seaworth is the Master of Ships. There could even be room for the return of the beloved Tyrion Lannister, who once visited the Wall with Jon in season 1.

4 The Origin Of The White Walkers

The conclusion of the White Walker story arc in season 8 of Game of Thrones left many fans scratching their heads. The threat that had been built up since the show's first scene was conquered in the span of one episode. There are still many questions left unanswered about the White Walkers and where they came from.

One important question fans would love for this Jon Snow series to answer is: what was the motivation of the White Walkers? Did they simply want bloodshed and conquest? There is an 8,000-year-long history with these sinister creatures, in addition to lots of lore from the books that never made it to Game of Thrones.

3 The Children Of The Forest Return

Jon and the company's exploration of beyond the Wall could also mean learning more about the origins of Westeros itself. Fans got a glimpse at this in season 6, when Bran Stark was the mentee of the Three-Eyed Raven. He was joined by the Children of the Forest, who were the very first inhabitants of Westeros before the First Men.

During season 6's flashback scenes, Bran discovers that the Children of the Forest created the White Walkers. However, several of them are killed when White Walkers invade the Three-Eyed Raven's hold-out. It's unknown whether there are more Children of the Forest out there, but perhaps that'll be for Jon Snow to discover.

2 A Visit To Winterfell

Sansa on the throne as Queen in the North in the season 8 finale

This new series will certainly find Jon preoccupied with whatever is going on beyond the Wall. However, hopefully, there will be an opportunity for Jon to visit his family in Winterfell. The pilot of Game of Thrones showed this was possible, as Jon's uncle Benjen was a Night's Watchmen who visited Winterfell to see his family.

This could also mark the return of Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark, who is now Queen of the North following the Game of Thrones finale. The Starks and the Night's Watch have had a long history together in Westeros, so it makes sense that Jon and Sansa will maintain that relationship. However, it's unlikely that Arya will join the festivities.

1 Jon Accepting His Lineage

Daenerys Targaryen Jon Snow Game of Thrones.

The mystery of Jon's parents was a big part of Game of Thrones, with many fans accurately predicting he is the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen. However, this revelation didn't affect the eighth season of the show that much, other than giving Jon reservations about his relationship with Daenerys. The sequel series can fix that.

Given that Jon's lineage means he's the rightful heir to the Iron Throne, being stuck at the Night's Watch will likely weigh on him. Although Jon has always identified as a Stark first and foremost, the new series can find him embracing his Targaryen heritage, too. Perhaps Jon will even embrace his status as the new Azor Ahai.
