A new video from YouTube channel TeaserPlay imagines that an open world Game of Thrones video game adaptation would be like if it were built using Unreal Engine 5. Game of Thrones has had a number of video game adaptations over the years, but none have been a large-scale, open world take on George R.R. Martin's fantasy series.

An open world Game of Thrones game may or may not ever come to pass, but in the meantime, fans can get an idea of what one could look like thanks to the latest video from TeaserPlay. TeaserPlay is a YouTube channel that creates concept videos for hypothetical video game projects, usually showing what these projects could look like if they were made using Unreal Engine 5. TeaserPlay's latest shows an open world Game of Thrones, taking clear inspiration from later seasons of the TV show.

The video includes some impressive character models of Tyrion Lannister, Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, Sansa Stark, and others. It seemingly recreates some shots and scenes from the last couple of seasons of the TV series, while showing huge valleys, a dragon, weather effects, and some interior environments. Parts of it look somewhat reminiscent of Bethesda's Skyrim.

While none of the Game of Thrones video games have been proper open world adventures as depicted in this TeaserPlay video, there have been various games based on the franchise released over the years. Telltale made its own Game of Thrones game, though Season 2 was canceled, and in 2012, Cyanide made a Game of Thrones action-RPG that earned mixed reviews.

Recent years have seen most Game of Thrones games concentrated in the mobile space. The Game of Thrones: Beyond the Wall mobile game released a couple of years ago and still receives substantial updates, while a new Game of Thrones mobile game from Netmarble is scheduled to launch at some point in 2023.

Mobile games may help fill the Game of Thrones video game void for some fans, but it's safe to say that many would prefer to see a proper console Game of Thrones game. It's easy to see how an open world Game of Thrones game would have a ton of potential, though no such project has been announced at the time of this writing. For now, Game of Thrones fans can check out the concept video from TeaserPlay and watch House of the Dragon, currently airing Sunday nights on HBO.
