Game Critics Awards Winners E3 2013

The Game Critics Association has announced its winners for Best of E3 2013. As expected, Titanfall swept all of its record six nominated categories including Best of Show and Best Original Game.

Although many intriguing games from this year's E3 made it onto the GSA's nominations list, most of them lost out to Titanfall in the end. Some of the more notable games the GSA "snubbed" included Destiny and Battlefield 4.

It's also important to mention that not all of the games on display at E3 made it onto the nominees list. Games like The Division and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - two of the more impressive demos from the show floor - were not eligible for awards consideration because they were not playable.

E3 2013 was also a good year for technology as the Oculus Rift (a nominee for Best of Show) came away with the Best Hardware/Peripheral award, beating out the PS4, Xbox One, and Nvidia Shield. Game Rant Editor-in-Chief Rob Keyes came away from his Oculus Rift demo extremely impressed, and considered the VR headset one of his top E3 2013 experiences.

As a collective Game Rant group, Titanfall was one of our favorite demos of E3 2013, so it's no surprise to see it take top honors from the Game Critics Association. In fact, Respawn Entertainment's first IP dominated the platform categories, taking Best Console Game, Best PC Game, Best Action Game, and Best Multiplayer Game.

Without a distinction between PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo no other game stood a chance. Luckily for Watch_Dogs - which won best action/adventure game - and a few of the other winners, Titanfall has a very specific focus as a multiplayer shooter.

'Watch Dogs' announced for the Xbox One

Speaking of other winners, there were a few genre-specific games that were able to grab an award including Need for Speed: Rivals, Transistor, NHL 14, and Fantasia: Music Evolved.

While it's hard to deny that next-gen consoles dominated the conversation at E3 2013, there are still plenty of upcoming releases to look forward to. Whether these games will deliver on their promises will be decided in the forthcoming year.

What do you think of the Game Critics Association's winners? Were there any choices that surprised you?
