Freaker Sneaks is a company owned by Johnny Barry that produces limited edition and custom sneakers. The company has produced some gaming-themed sneakers in the past, including the cool retro-looking Nintendo-themed Jordans that were made in 2017. This year the company has produced another pair of gaming-themed sneakers, a pair of Game Boy-themed Air Jordans.

As usual, only a very limited number of these sneakers were made and they are very expensive to say the least. Freaker Sneaks made only 10 of these Game Boy-themed Air Jordans, and they go for the steep price of $1,350. As is seen in an image of the back of the sneakers below, the left and right heels have the d-pad found on the Game Boy handheld console, and two face buttons embedded on them respectively. These buttons can also be pressed, as they are not merely flat ornaments on the heels of the sneakers.

In the other image below, one can see the front flaps that feature the very old Super Mario Land’s box art, as well as an image from the game as it would have appeared on the Game Boy Classic's mini green-tinted LCD screen.  A small grey plastic Game Boy cartridge serves as the hang tag on the right sneaker, and the color of the sneakers is also a warm, off-white grey-tinge that complements the yellow and green of the LCD screen very well.

The Game Boy variant of the Jordans also has the honor of a shared birthday. Both the Air Jordan IVs, which is the style of this particular sneaker, and the Game Boy handheld console were released in 1989, making them a very unique pop cultural crossover. Although most of us will never own a pair of these sneakers, it is a great crossover to see. We also hope that in future Freaker Sneaks will make more gaming-themed sneakers, or that Jordans might even consider making a more affordable pair for all gaming fans to wear.
