Soon, the old Game Boy Color RPG Infinity will get a campaign on Kickstarter to finally see a full release after being canceled 20 years ago.

The unreleased Game Boy game Infinity has an interesting history behind it. It was originally intended to release for the Game Boy Color by 2001, but due to the Game Boy Advance's release, Infinity never saw the light of day and was pushed into publishing limbo. But it wasn't far off from completed development, so an unfinished ROM was released to the public alongside a soundtrack back in 2016. At about 90% complete, Infinity could be played in a Game Boy emulator.

After being lost in development purgatory for nearly 20 years, former staff members from Affinix Software are completing Infinity under Incube8 Games. Supported by publisher Retro Modding, a Kickstarter for the game will launch soon to finish off its development. Infinity will see a physical cartridge for the Game Boy Color as it was originally intended if all goes well with funding.

Likely due to a new wave of nostalgia, both the Game Boy and Game Boy Color have been gaining traction in the gaming community lately. To this day, indie developers continue to release Game Boy exclusives complete with cartridges, such as with the upcoming title from Green Boy Games, The Shapeshifter, which passed its original goal on Kickstarter by 504%.

Even though some popular Game Boy games can be played on the Switch, including the first generation Pokemon games, some still prefer to play the classics in their original format, meaning demand for both new and old Game Boy titles.

Infinity is currently in development for the Game Boy Color.
