The Nintendo Game Boy is often regarded as the console that ushered in the world of handheld gaming. The Game Boy, created by Gunpei Yokoi, is as historic as it is iconic. And now, collectors and historians can purchase a new box art collection book for the classic handheld.

Bitmap Books has announced that its Game Boy: The Box Art Collection book will be releasing soon, and pre-orders are going live on September 28, 2020. The collector's item is a love-letter to the Game Boy, which released back in 1989 and lasted almost a decade and a half long, with production ceasing in 2003.

The Game Boy: The Box Art Collection is an impressive 372-pages long, showcasing cover artwork and hand-picked in-game images from over 350 games. Along with the images, Bitmap Books has retrospectives and opinions on each title. With the Game Boy having amazing games among its 1,000 plus releases over its lifespan, jam-packing a third of the games in one massive book is quite remarkable.

The book is selling at a few different prices and skews. The standard version is going for £29.99 ($38.44 USD), according to the YouTube video that Bitmap Books released. There is also a Silver Edition for £49.99 ($64.08 USD) and a Gold Edition £64.99 ($83.31 USD). The two special edition version will have a much more limited supply run, and come with a collector's box.

Nintendo's handheld lives on in more than just spirit today, as there is even a modern-day Game Boy available for pre-order that is set to release next year. Whether through mods, artwork, collector's items, recreations, and other creative ideas, the Game Boy is a handheld that fans are keeping alive over 30 years after its initial release.
