The Game Awards has announced the nominees for the 2022 version of the event, and like always, some games were nominated for more than one award. The Game Awards 2022 will featre a wide variety of categories when it airs live on December 8, giving numerous video games released this year the opportunity to win big.

Going into The Game Awards 2022, the conversation about Game of the Year has mainly revolved around God of War Ragnarok and Elden Ring. While Elden Ring is the highest-rated game of 2022 so far, God of War Ragnarok has more nominations at The Game Awards 2022. God of War Ragnarok has a whopping 10 nominations at The Game Awards 2022, while Elden Ring has a respectable seven nominations.

Joining Elden Ring in the seven nominations club is Horizon Forbidden West, which launched in the same month and was somewhat overshadowed by FromSoftware's open world epic at the time of its release. Despite Horizon Forbidden West somewhat struggling to generate buzz in the face of Elden Ring, it's clear by its nominations that the game is still being recognized for what it achieved.

Game Awards 2022 Games With Most Nominations

  • God of War Ragnarok - 10
  • Elden Ring - 7
  • Horizon Forbidden West - 7
  • Stray - 6
  • A Plague Tale: Requiem - 5
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - 3
  • Immortality - 3
  • Neon White - 3
  • Sifu - 3
  • Tunic - 3
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - 3

PlayStation is generally dominating the Game Awards nominations, as PlayStation console exclusive Stray has earned an impressive six nominations. Stray is the cat game where players take on the role of a literal cat. While some criticized Stray for its short length, it otherwise earned a great deal of praise for its high quality graphics, emotional storytelling, and how the developers managed to accurately recreate a real-life cat's movements.

Right behind Stray in total nominations is A Plague Tale: Requiem, which is up for five awards at The Game Awards 2022. A Plague Tale: Requiem is the sequel to a A Plague Tale: Innocence, and it is notable for being one of the only true next-gen games in the lineup. Impressing critics with its massive rat tsunamis and gripping narrative, A Plague Tale: Requiem certainly stands a shot at taking home an award or two at The Game Awards this year.

Meanwhile, six games managed to earn three nominations each at The Game Awards 2022, including Activision's blockbuster FPS Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Sam Barlow's innovative narrative-driven game Immortality, the card-based FPS Neon White, the intense brawler Sifu, the Zelda meets Dark Souls game Tunic, and the epic-scale Switch exclusive JRPG Xenoblade Chronicles 3, the latter of which is also nominated for Game of the Year. It will be interesting to see which games win awards, and those interested will just have to tune in to The Game Awards on December 8 to find out.
