Before Nintendo revolutionized the video game industry with the Nintendo Entertainment System, it was known for its handheld Game & Watch systems. Now the Game & Watch is returning with Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros., set to release later this year and be available until March 2021.

As its name implies, Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. will let players play the original Super Mario Bros. game on the go, along with Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels. The Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. will also function as a clock, just like the classic ones, but it will feature a more traditional d-pad to allow for smoother controls. Nintendo has also teased that there are "35 little touches" for players to discover in Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros., but stopped short of revealing exactly what those "little touches" could be.

While Super Mario Bros. and The Lost Levels are definitely the "meat" of this new Game & Watch release, it will also feature the Game & Watch ball mini-game. But instead of the classic Game & Watch character, the mini-game has Mario's likeness. Anyone interested will be able to pick up the system come November 13, and they should note that it will be displayed in "full color," which is quite the upgrade compared to some of the original Game & Watch releases.

Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. is just one way that Nintendo is celebrating the Super Mario 35th Anniversary. In a surprise Nintendo Direct presentation, the company also announced a slew of Super Mario games coming to the Switch, with the most notable easily being Super Mario 3D All-Stars. The long-rumored 3D Super Mario collection brings Super Mario 64Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy in one package from September 18 to March 2021. Like Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros., it will only be available for a limited-time, so those interested will want to act fast.

Another big Super Mario announcement from the Nintendo Direct was the confirmation of the Super Mario 3D World Switch port. But instead of simply porting Super Mario 3D World to the Switch, Nintendo is expanding on the game with new content in an expansion called Bowser's Fury. Specific details as to what Bowser's Fury will entail have yet to be revealed, but more information will come to light as we get closer to the game's release on February 12, 2021.

As far as the original Super Mario Bros. goes, Nintendo will be giving fans the chance to experience it in more ways than just the Game & Watch release. Super Mario All-Stars is coming to the Switch Online service later today, plus a Super Mario Bros. battle royale called Super Mario Bros. 35 was also announced.
