Peripheral and computer hardware manufacturer G.SKILL announced a new line of PC keycaps for mechanical keyboards. The shiny Crystal Crown Keycap upgrade set accentuates LED and RBG backlighting, with an overall sleek design.

The distinguishing feature of G.SKILL's new keycaps is their dual-layered design. The bottom portion of the cap is left clear, hence the "crystal." The bottom layer enhances a board's colorful backlighting by allowing more light to shine through the keys. With a variety of backlight colors, the end result makes the keys look like they're floating.

Important to note, however, is that the upgrade kit does not include switches. For those unfamiliar with mechanical keyboards, the switch is what sends a signal to the motherboard that a key has been pressed. Switches come in a variety of types, such as the common ergonomic switches found in most office-oriented keyboards. Thankfully, the caps themselves will fit with any cross-shaped MX, or mechanical, switch. The set does come with a keycap puller, which makes swapping out the keys on an existing keyboard much easier.

Mechanical keyboards have exploded in popularity in recent years, particularly among PC gaming loyalists. Though notorious for their audible clicking when pressed, the boards far make up for it in terms of comfort and responsiveness. Mechanical keyboards are also fairly simple to custom build as a fun hobby project.
