With the Furiosa movie currently in production, fans have been scrambling to figure out as many details about the film as they can. Not many people might be aware of this but the roots of the Furiosa movie go way back to the 1990s when George Miller, the creator of the Mad Max franchise, wanted to dramatically expand the scope of the universe he initially gave birth to in 1979.

Bearing this in mind, there is plenty for fans to look forward to when it comes to the Furiosa movie already. There's bound to be some new characters, major lore expansion, and of course, more pulse-pounding, high-budget action that helped make Mad Max: Fury Road such a great film. Though the titular character of Furiosa herself will not be played by Charlize Theron this time (played instead by Anya Taylor Joy), there is little doubt that fans will be extremely excited to see the badass imperator's return to the big screen in particular.

5 A Villain to Rival Joe

Immortan Joe and his empire made for excellent villains in Mad Max: Fury Road. With Furiosa taking place during the titular character's days as an imperator, however, this means that Joe (if he shows up at all) and his Army are more or less on the side of the protagonist this time, leaving the role of antagonist wide open. While it has yet to be officially confirmed who the villains are, it was recently reported that beloved Australian actor, Chris Hemsworth will be playing the main villain in Furiosa.

The prevailing rumor is that Hemsworth will be playing the role of Dr. Dementus, a character originally conceived by Miller well before Fury Road was released. In the Mad Max game, the player can not only learn who Dementus was, they can even discover his supposed final resting place and take his signature vehicle. Whether this is still what George Miller has in store for the character is unknown.

4 Real Wasteland Warfare

When it comes to vehicular combat, Mad Max: Fury Road certainly treated audiences to endlessly entertaining spectacle, even if it was restrained by the narrative from displaying the true nature of a wasteland war. Furiosa, on the other hand, will not be a chase movie like Fury Road was, it will instead delve deeper into the war that Joe's empire waged against its enemies in order to become the preeminent wasteland power of the post-apocalypse.

Furiosa is said to be more of a straightforward drama piece than a chase movie, which will afford it the opportunity to portray a wider conflict as well as the build-up and tactics therein. The movie may even take place over the course of a few years in order to adequately tell this story, especially if a young Furiosa is going to be the central protagonist, allowing for the audience to experience a broader scope of wasteland warfare.

3 Young Furiosa and the Vuvalini

Not much was explained about Furiosa's past among the Vuvalini, nor were the Vuvalini themselves explained all that much in Mad Max: Fury Road. Granted, the movie had enough going on where it wasn't really necessary or relevant to spell everything out for the audience, that said, doing exactly that would make perfect sense in Furiosa seeing as how it's a prequel, centered around the origin of the character herself.

Getting to see the Green Place in all its glory as well as Furiosa during her time there as a child would be a sight to behold, and it would give the audience a greater understanding of Furiosa as a character in both Fury Road and her prequel film. Things like her training, who her mother was and what she was like, how she lost her arm, as well her relationship with other members of the Vuvalini could all be expanded upon for dramatic purposes.

2 The Potential for Expanded Lore

George Miller has stated before that in-between Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome and Fury road, he and some other writers created all sorts of backstory for various aspects of the Mad Max universe with the intent to release it through various mediums. This included movies, T.V shows, comics, games, and more. A lot of this lore made it into Fury Road of course, but there was still much that is yet unseen.

Places like Gas Town or the Bullet Farms that were teased in Fury Road, for example, could be fully fleshed out, as could other factions in the wasteland. Oddly enough, some of this background lore made it into the 2015 Mad Max game, though without Miller's guidance or consent (he isn't even credited in the game's credits). So it is entirely possible that characters from that game might appear in the Furiosa movie, albeit in altered form.

1 Immortan Joe and His Empire

Fury Road gave audiences a reasonable look at Immortan Joe's wasteland empire but so much had to be left out for the sake of the story. Not only are much of the details on how it operates shrouded in mystery, but its exact origins are also even more mysterious. How exactly Joe came to power, how he formed his alliances with other factions, and how he developed his personality cult are all ripe for exploration in Furiosa.

What is known is that Joe uses his monopoly on water to control his subjects, but the intricacies of this fact could be further explored. Society under the leadership of Immortan Joe was teased briefly, but a story centered around one of its citizens, Furiosa, would give the audience a much clearer picture of life under Joe's regime.
