It seems that Funko, creators of Funko Pop! figures, is taking a page out of Nintendo’s book and creating a line of breakfast cereal based off some hit video game characters: Mega Man and Cuphead. The popular collectable company will be releasing several different lines of cereal, each exclusively released through a specific store.

Each of the exclusive “FunkO’s” cereals feature a special colored cereal and a Pop! vinyl figure. One of the cereals is blue and features Mega Man himself. The Mega Man franchise has a big year this year, as Capcom is returning to the series to produce Mega Man 11, which launches this October.

The latest installment was announced as part of Mega Man’s 30th anniversary. Capcom has also been busy releasing Mega Man Legacy Collection and Mega Man Legacy Collection 2, which feature the some of the most loved titles in the franchise’s history. The Mega Man FunkO’s will be exclusive to Gamestop.

The other big video game character being featured in the cereal line is Cuphead, from the hit indie game of the same name. Cuphead was one of the biggest indie games of 2017 and is getting ready to get a new DLC pack, which will feature more levels and a new playable character. The special Cuphead and Mugman FunkO’s will be exclusive to Hot Topic stores.

The other cereal lines feature some familiar faces, like Gollum from Lord of the Rings, as well as classic horror villains, like Freddy Krueger of Nightmare on Elm Street fame, and Jason from Friday the 13th. The Friday the 13th game is in the spotlight at the moment, as a lawsuit has forced the game to cease production on any new content for the asymmetrical survival horror game. The Gollum cereal is exclusive to BoxLunch, while Freddy and Jason’s cereals will be exclusive to FYE.

It’s really neat to see pop culture icons brought to other forms of merchandise, cereal included. While Mario’s cereal box functioned as an amiibo, these boxes at least offer some really neat collectibles as part of the package. Hopefully, the peculiar exclusiveness of the cereals will not prevent dedicated fans from picking up a box of these unique treats.

The FunkO’s cereal line launches July 2018, with more cereals expected to be announced later this year.
