Never underestimate a fan's dedication to a gaming franchise. A wanted man risked his freedom to purchase a copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and it didn't go well. Clint Butler, a UK fugitive, escaped from the HMP Spring Hill open prison in Buckinghamshire in November 2020. He was originally serving a 17-year sentence for robbery and firearm possession, but the allure of the first-person shooter was too much for Butler, who was arrested after coming out of hiding to purchase the game.

Butler and a friend took a trip to Martineau Way in Birmingham, England to buy Call of Dutybut were confronted by two police officers who noticed they were acting strangely. They questioned their choice to go shopping despite lockdown mandates, to which Butler replied, "I’ve come to get the new Call of Duty because I can’t sit around in lockdown." After following up on the fake name he gave officers, things turned violent when Butler kicked one of the officers in the groin before attempting to escape.

With help from nearby security guards and one slippery floor, Butler was apprehended once again. His original sentence has been extended by an additional 13 months for escaping and another six months for assaulting an officer. There area few lessons to be learned here, the most important of which is to simply obey the law. However, if you are on the lam, maybe consider downloading the games you want to play. Perhaps Butler let the excitement of the recent out-of-season Black Ops Cold War Christmas Bundle get to him.

One thing that's always in season is character bundles and Black Ops Cold War just added one fans have been wanting. A Samantha Maxis bundle is now in the game's official shop. Originally featured in Call of Duty's Zombies modes, she is now available as an operator. Treyarch christened her arrival with a blog post that detailed her background and provided information on her past.

The second season of Black Ops Cold War kicked off in late February, bringing with it new maps, operators, and adding fan-favorite game mode Gun Game. The mode has remained largely untouched from its original iteration. It still requires players to secure 20 kills, with players switching weapons once an enemy is defeated. The first player to cycle through 20 weapons wins.

The final tiers are objectively the hardest and have left some players asking for major Gun Game changes. Once players are reduced to using only their fists, the mode becomes slow and tedious. Factor in that radar pings makes it difficult to sneak up on opponents, this portion of the mode has become a subject of complaints. Players are now asking Treyarch to listen to feedback and possibly implement changes in the future.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
