Friday the 13th: The Game had its day in the sun yesterday, and the day before, the teams at Gun Media and Illfonic kicked off a special double XP weekend for the horror survival title to celebrate the holiday after which the game is named. With that festivity already underway, it comes as a happy surprise that new information about the title's forthcoming single player mode has been unveiled.

As confirmed in a recent update for Friday the 13th: The Game, the single player component will be stratified into three separate components that link together to create the entire experience. A standout element of the impending mode is the challenges that come bundled with it, which Illfonic’s Casey Holtz revealed will pay homage to the classic Friday the 13th film series.

Holtz dished up details on the new mode, which wasn't available at launch, in a new post on the game's subreddit. "There have been several posts asking for a bit more detail regarding the upcoming single player mode," wrote Holtz. "Challenges will have homages to the films. For example, you might kill someone in a location the way you might remember from one of the films."

He went on to explain that fans can play as Jason Voorhees within challenges, though a goal for one challenge may allow players to do something as a specific Jason. Within challenges, AI will "go about doing things until they see Jason or a dead body," and "will try to survive and escape by hiding, attacking... based on their character archetype."

Players can also expect challenge-specific VO for each counselor, new kills for Jason, and new behavior animations for counselors. Additionally, Jason will play like he does in multiplayer in single-player mode, with all his abilities and kills remaining in tact.

In addition to the single-player challenges, players can look forward to an offline bot component and a new Virtual Cabin 2.0 being incorporated within the game. The offline bot will allow users to play as Jason whenever they please, and will serve as a type of training mode for those aiming to improve their skills against AI enemies before entering multiplayer mode. The new and improved Virtual Cabin 2.o will expand upon the original mode, in which players can explore areas (without the fear of being killed) to get a better look at the game's many Easter eggs, puzzles, and, of course, references to the Friday the 13th films.

The game's single-player mode still doesn't have a release date, but after multiple delays and setbacks, this news is a glimmer of hope likely bright enough to keep players holding on until more information becomes available.

Friday the 13th: The Game is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The physical edition of the title is also available now.
