New single player Challenges are being introduced to Friday the 13th: The Game, and a short trailer was released today that gives a glimpse as to how this new game mode will play.

The trailer previews the tutorial for the new mode, which tasks the player, as Jason, to kill to teenagers who are attempting to repair their car that has inexplicably broken down. We can safely assume they are on their way to Camp Crystal Lake, as they guy talk about all the tail they're going to get. The dialogue is very reminiscent of the films, which is likely Gun Media's intent. All of this is happening while Jason patiently watches them from the woods.

Eventually, they separate and Jason makes his move. He gruesomely kills one using a sharp branch and the other with a lot less style, allowing the weight of the car to do the work. If these kills don't wow you, don't fret. These aren't the only ways to complete the challenge, as the voiceover at the beginning alludes.

According to the official Friday the 13th: The Game site, the regular, multiplayer game mode is meant to put players deep into a Friday the 13th movie, where all counselors are aware of Jason and already running for their lives. Challenges play out like the beginning of the film, where the campers are just settling in, ready to party, and blissfully unaware of the danger lurking in the woods. The best part of the new Challenges mode? It's absolutely free.

These poor counselors really have it rough, and it recently got even rougher for them after a patch that nerfs counselors released last week, while simultaneously buffing Jason. Additionally, some items are less available throughout each map. Pocket knives, medical sprays, wrenches, and machetes will spawn less frequently, which means counselors are going to have a more difficult time fighting back. Jason, on the other hand, now spawns with more throwing knives, and his movement speed and grabbing range have been increased.

Gun Media is dealing with more than new modes and patches at the moment. That very cool Tom Savini Jason skin has made its way onto eBay, much to the developer's dismay. Meant as a reward exclusively for backers who crowdfunded the game, it appears someone stole codes from a Kickstarter partner and has begun selling them online. As a solution, Gun Media is cancelling any unredeemed codes that have been affected by the theft.

Friday the 13th: The Game is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
