When it comes to Friday the 13th, every player typically wants to be Jason, but not everyone can be the iconic killer during a given session. Unfortunately, that desire to play as Jason typically leads to a lot of quitting, especially when the same few players get randomly selected as Jason over and over.

Luckily, that should change with the next Friday the 13th patch, which will introduce a type of ticket system for playing as Jason. Essentially, players will have a set of virtual tickets behind the scenes that the game will cash in when they are chosen to be Jason. And as they play Jason, that ticket inventory will decline, and their odds of playing Jason again will decrease.

Gun Media community lead ShiftySamurai explained the system on Friday the 13th’s forums, detailing how it works and how it will improve players’ odds of being Jason over time. However, he didn’t say when the next update would release, but it should be soon.

Hello slashers, today let’s talk about changes coming to how Jason is selected in Quick Play matches of Friday the 13th: The Game.

With the next update we will be introducing a behind-the-scenes ticket system that improves the selection process governing which player is selected to be Jason. Players who have marked Jason as their spawn preference are given a surplus of tickets. Each time they’ve played Jason, tickets are subtracted, to reduce the chance of a single player being selected in back to back rounds, even when switching lobbies. An exception would be if that player switched to a lobby with players who have all indicated a preference for playing Counselors.

Counselors - in the event that everyone in the lobby has their preference set to Counselor, one of you will still be selected to play as Jason.

What happens if two players have the exact same amount of tickets, and neither have played Jason lately? The system will randomly select a ticket, and the owner of that ticket will be selected as Jason for the round.

The end goal of the ticket system is to make it so the same player won't control Jason every time they play, even when they switch lobbies. Developer Gun Media was quick to point out that tickets will refresh over time, so players won’t be forced to wait hours to be Jason again, though, but the end goal is still to give everyone an opportunity to control the killer.

Shortly after Friday the 13th released, Gun Media and Illfonic were met with a strong contingent of frustrated gamers. For starters, getting to play as Jason was completely random and occasionally the same player would get to control him within a few matches. But to make matters worse, Friday the 13th didn’t have dedicated servers, so if the host left then the match ended and everyone was disconnected. Many players were fine playing as the camp counselors, but those that desperately wanted to be Jason would leave and end the game for everyone.

Now, at the very least, Friday the 13th players know that there are systems in place to try and help them be Jason. That way, they will be more likely to see a game through in the hopes that the next time around they might be Jason.

Friday the 13th is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
