While Friday the 13th: The Game may have had a lot of updates focused on server stability and matchmaking early on, now that the game has been out for several months developer Illfonic can focus on gameplay improvements, like tweaking Jason and his abilities. This week, the developer released a new update that offers a new map, a new Jason skin, and buffs some of the killer's abilities.

With this latest Friday the 13th: The Game update, Illfonic seems to be putting the player's best interests at heart by giving them a little bit of everything. On January 30th, players will get to see Jason V, who comes brandishes gardening shears as a weapon, among a few others.

As part of the update, players will also get to discover and hide from the killer in a brand new map, Pinehurst Youth Development Center. And best of all, unlike previous Friday the 13th DLC, Jason V and the Pinehurst map are completely free to any that own the game. Check out the new content trailer here:

The trailer boasts of Jason being a "rageful, unstoppable force that was buried years ago" and "has returned." Fans of the game and the franchise should be excited by this news, as the game seems to be following the movie franchise and releasing popular skins and maps, like that of Jason X. Even with this new map and skin coming out, fans can still hope for future updates and new content with their favorite Jason skins and maps from their favorite Friday the 13th installments.

These two new additions to the game come directly from the movie Friday the 13th: A New Beginning and fans should be able to pick up on all the references and Easter Eggs in the trailer alone. Hopefully, there will be even more once players get their hands on the game and start looking for them.

Alongside the new content, Illfonic will also make some small changes to the way Jason works in Friday the 13th by making him more viable online. Specifically, all Jason skins will receive a small speed increase and they all start with two extra throwing knives. Illfonic was quick to point out that the speed increase won't make it impossible for counselors to outrun Jason, but it will make him seem more relentless.

Jason's grab range has also been adjusted so that it feels less like counselors are constantly slipping through his fingers. Early on, it was almost impossible to escape from Jason but now Illfonic needs to balance things back in that direction, albeit not too far that things become unfair.

Friday the 13th: The Game is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The Jason V and Pinehurst Map will release January 30th, 2018 for all platforms.
