Despite releasing to relatively poor reviews and being bogged down by a long list of technical issues, Friday the 13th: The Game has proven to be quite popular with the gaming community. In fact, the game has managed to top the digital sales charts on PlayStation 4 for the month of June, beating out other big games like Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Grand Theft Auto 5.
Unfortunately, exact digital sales numbers aren’t available at this time, but the fact that Friday the 13th: The Game was the top-selling digital PS4 game for the month of June is still impressive nonetheless. However, one has to imagine that its success would have been even greater had it launched with minimal server problems and additional content.
After all, Friday the 13th: The Game is actually missing one of its biggest features right now – the single player campaign that is supposedly in the works for release this summer. While the game’s main draw is its asymmetric multiplayer action, there are those that prefer single player that may have held off on buying the game until the single player is available.
Here are the top 10 best selling digital PS4 games for June 2017:
- Friday the 13th: The Game
- Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
- Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor – Game of the Year Edition
- Grand Theft Auto 5
- God of War 3 Remastered
- Battlefield 1
- Horizon: Zero Dawn
- Tekken 7
- Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition
- Rocket League
Friday the 13th‘s sales success is impressive, but it’s worth noting that it didn’t have a lot of competition for June. As some may notice, there are only two other June releases in the top 10 best selling digital PS4 games, those being Tekken 7 and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. While it’s surprising that Tekken 7 didn’t debut higher on the list, Crash Bandicoot managed to come in second place despite only being available to purchase for one day in June.
Friday the 13th, meanwhile, released back in May, and had the entire month of June to rack up sales. Since Crash Bandicoot was able to come in second with only one day of sales, it’s likely that the N. Sane Trilogy would have toppled Friday the 13th if the titles were competing on an even playing field.
With Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy having more days to make sales and the release of Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age right around the corner, Friday the 13th: The Game has its work cut out for it if it wants to stay on top of the sales charts in July. However, if Illfonic and Gun Media continue supporting Friday the 13th with regular content updates and bug fixes, there’s no reason why it can’t be a strong seller for months to come.
Friday the 13th: The Game is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
