This spooky season, there are two multiplayer horror games for PC and console you might want to play with friends: Friday the 13th and Dead by DaylightThe games share a lot of similarities when it comes to their base concept — survivors are dropped into a match and one person is the killer. The aim of the survivors is to escape, and the aim of the killers is to finish the match with no one left alive. Sounds pretty simple and similar, but the games have some key differences and there are some points of contention about which of the horror games is actually better. Strap in, because we're here to decide once and for all.

10 Graphics: Dead By Daylight

The graphics in Friday the 13th are pretty outdated — let's be honest. For such a recent game, not a whole lot of effort went into them and they're also glitchy as hell. You can be driving the car, get out, and stuck floating around in a sitting position with your hands on a nonexistant steering well.

Meanwhile, Dead by Daylight has detailed characters and killers, and the graphics are just a lot more seamless. If you want to play based on visuals because that's what keeps you invested, you now know which game to choose.

9 Light Fun: Friday The 13th

If you're looking for something light-hearted, you're probably going to want to go with Friday. Although the game can be a bit tense the first time you're dropped into a match, it's definitely a little more fun in terms of not taking itself too seriously, so if you're cosying up on the couch with a controller to play against your friends — this may be the one for you.

8 Skill Required: Dead By Daylight

On the other hand, if you're someone who wants to get invested in a game and actually feel some achievement as you get good, Daylight is going to be the one for you. That's not to say that Friday doesn't require any skill, but the skill checks are a lot more difficult in Daylight than the repair mini games of Friday, and it's a lot more difficult to get away from the killer once he's on your tail.

7 Play With Friends: Friday The 13th

You can create a private match in both games to just play with your friends but Friday is just better set up for it. You can create a private match entirely or you can buddy up in a party system and be loaded into a lobby with other random people to be set up for a full match. Daylight didn't have this feature for a long time and although they now have a party system, it's still bringing up a lot of bugs and lagging for some people.

You can also invite up to nine people in a single Friday match including the killer, whereas in Daylight, you're limited to five.

6 DLC Content: Dead By Daylight

Dead By Daylight Nightmare On Elm Steet

Friday the 13th was involved in a long lawsuit which ended in the development of the game being canceled. They still update it to fix bugs and are claiming the game will stick around, but no more DLC content can be added. Meanwhile, Daylight are continuously adding DLC content and whole new realms, the most recent of which being the Stranger Things content where you can play as Steve and Nancy or even the Demogorgon. Hard to beat that.

5 Ability To Fight Back: Friday The 13th

Something that can get incredibly frustrating in Daylight is the lack of ability to fight back. The only way to fight the killer is to drop a pallet on him while running or shine a flashlight directly in his flash, both of which taking timing and/or aim that's often impossible. All you can really do when he's on your tail? Run.

Friday, however, litters weapons around the map that can be used to satisfyingly thwack Jason such as baseball bats, axes, and machetes. You can stun and damage him (and even kill him).

4 Playable Characters: Dead By Daylight

It's hard to beat the multiple characters of Daylight, spanning across multiple horror movies and franchises. There's not just Stranger Things but a whole bunch — Scream, Halloween, and so many more. Friday only has the survivors of the movies and each version of Jason.

Sure, it'd be missing the point to include anything else, but Daylight still wins overall in this aspect.

3 Playable Killers: Tie

When it comes to the killers specifically, it has to be a tie. Sure, Daylight has more variable options, but Friday has to be given a nod for the sheer fact that it's given each version of Jason something original, with different strengths and weaknesses. The fact the killers vary in both games means that you can switch around and they're both endlessly fun.

2 Perks: Dead By Daylight

Both of the games involve a perks system, where as you level up and gain more experience in the game, you can get different perks for your survivors. But Daylight goes one step further and adds perks for killers too, with some perks being unique to a survivor or killer. Overall, it's just a much more complex and varied system, but it also churns out better perks in the end.

1 Leveling System: Dead By Daylight

The leveling system in Friday is simple: 150 is the max level, you start at 1, and you work your way up with experience. When you hit 150, you're maxed out.

Daylight, however, has a level per character as well as player, and then a prestige level after that. This means that when you max a character out, you're not left asking yourself what the point of playing even is any more.

So although both games have their merits, Dead By Daylight is probably the better game to get invested in overall. That doesn't mean it isn't fun to sit down and play Friday with some friends, though!
