In a bright spot this week, the gaming community came together to score themselves some swag. Previously, developer Klei Entertainment announced their plan to give away the soundtrack for their upcoming game Shank:

“The soundtrack for the game was scored by our friends and local Vancouver musicians Vince de Vera and Jason Garner, and since we’ve been asked about it countless times, we’re going to share his work with all of you. If we can get to our goal of 1,500 people to show their love for Shank by joining our community on Facebook, we’ll release the entire soundtrack for free… in all its DRM-free glory.”

Well people, you came together and it happened. The Official Shank Blog reports:

“As we discussed in our last post, we completely underestimated the demand for the Shank soundtrack to be released. We hit our Facebook fan goal in 3 hours, and I’ve already spoken to Vince about releasing the rest of the tracks. Vince and Jason are now remastering the tracks to be suitable for consumption, and we’ll be releasing it as soon as it’s ready.”

The soundtrack will be available on The Official Shank Blog when the remastering is completed. Now all we have to do is wait, both for the DRM-free soundtrack, and for the gritty fun gameplay that is Shank.

We all know that gamers love free stuff. The question is, what do you think about Klei Entertainment’s visceral new offering, Shank?

Shank will be available on August 24 for the Xbox 360 and August 25 for the PlayStation 3.
