Usually PS4 owners get two free games per month through their PlayStation Plus subscriptions, but it seems some gamers are getting an extra freebie this month. It's been reported by multiple users that PlayStation has been emailing them a digital download code for one of the console's most well-reviewed exclusive games.

Astro Bot Rescue Mission, a PlayStation VR game that stands as one of the most highly-rated virtual reality games to date, is being given away for free to select users. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to who gets a code and who doesn't. Even though the game requires PlayStation VR, Sony has been giving out codes to users who don't even own a PSVR headset. Considering this, anyone with a PlayStation Network account may want to check their email to see if there's an Astro Bot Rescue Mission code waiting for them.

Astro Bot Rescue Mission is from Sony's acclaimed Japan studio, and it provides old-school platforming gameplay with a VR twist. We named it one of the best VR games of 2018, and for good reason. It topped the "Best of" lists for many other publications as well, and has an impressive 89 rating on review aggregate site OpenCritic.

While not everyone will get access to a free copy of Astro Bot Rescue Mission, everyone with a PlayStation Plus subscription can download two free games right now and until the end of the August. The free PS Plus games for August 2019 are Wipeout Omega Collection and Sniper Elite 4, though they will soon be replaced by the free PS Plus games for September 2019.

As to what the free PS Plus games for September 2019 will be, that remains to be seen. Luckily, fans shouldn't have to wait too much longer to find out. It's expected that Sony will announce the free PS Plus games for September 2019 on Wednesday, August 28, so we should find out by the end of the week. In the meantime, the free PS Plus games for August 2019 will still be available, and those who are lucky enough to get a code can also download a free copy of Astro Bot Rescue Mission.

Astro Bot Rescue Mission is out now, exclusively for PlayStation VR.
