When it comes to the free PlayStation Plus games, Sony has been on a roll lately. The free PS Plus games for March 2020 included Shadow of the Colossus, whereas the free PS Plus games for April 2020 were headlined by Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. Now Sony has pulled the curtain back on the free PS Plus games for May 2020, and it seems its PS Plus winning streak may be coming to an end.

The free PS Plus games for May 2020 are Cities: Skylines - PlayStation 4 Edition and Farming Simulator 19, which will be available for subscribers to claim from May 5 to June 1. Cities: Skylines earned decent reviews at the time of its release, though Farming Simulator 19 had a more mixed reception. Regardless, both the games could be considered fairly niche, and so their appeal is limited. As a result, there's been quite a bit of backlash to the free PlayStation Plus games for May 2020, with many online complaining about the lineup on Twitter and elsewhere.

While some fans may be disappointed by the free PS Plus games for May 2020, it should be noted that Sony has given away numerous free games this past month. Thanks to Sony's Play at Home Initiative, PS4 users are also able to claim Journey and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection until May 5, and they don't even have to be subscribed to the PlayStation Plus program to do so.

Even so, the backlash to the free PS Plus games for May 2020 has been rather harsh so far, and that may also have to do with the games that were previously rumored for the lineup. A fake leak claimed that the free PS Plus games for May 2020 would be Dying Light and Dark Souls, two games that are much more popular and have a much broader appeal than Cities: Skylines and Farming Simulator 19. It stands to reason that fans may not be quite as upset had they not thought they were getting those games instead.

While some fans may be disappointed by the free PS Plus games for May 2020, there's still time to claim the free PS Plus games for April 2020, not to mention the free games that are part of the Play at Home initiative. Plus, fans can look forward to the PS Plus program possibly getting expanded later this year.

Prior to dropping PS Plus support for PS3 and PS Vita, PlayStation Plus subscribers used to get two free games per system. It seems likely that when Sony launches the PlayStation 5, PS Plus subscribers will get free games for both consoles. However, Sony has yet to actually announce its PS Plus plans for the PS5, so fans should keep their expectations in check.
