Sony typically reveals the next pair of free PlayStation Plus games on the last Wednesday of each month, but it decided to shake things up a bit for June's offerings. PlayStation has announced one of the free PS Plus games for June 2020 ahead of schedule, confirming that PS Plus subscribers will be able to download Call of Duty: WW2 for free beginning May 26.

While PS Plus subscribers can download Call of Duty: WW2 starting May 26, it's unclear if it will actually be playable then or if they will have to wait until June. As for why Sony decided to announce it early, it's likely due to Call of Duty: WW2's military theme and the fact that today is Memorial Day in the United States. Regardless, Call of Duty: WW2 is definitely a big game for the PS Plus lineup, regardless of how one feels about the Call of Duty games, and it seems likely that fans will respond better to it than they did the free PS Plus games for May 2020.

As some may recall, the free PS Plus games for May 2020 were met with significant backlash online. The offerings, Cities: Skylines and Farm Simulator, may not necessarily be bad games, but they are both part of niche genres that have limited appeal. It certainly didn't help matters that Sony had otherwise been on a hot streak when it comes to the free PS Plus games this year, offering titles like Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and the Shadow of the Colossus remake to its subscribers.

Since Call of Duty: WW2 is such a big game, it stands to reason that one of the leaked PS Plus games for June 2020 could be fake. Previously, it was rumored that Sony would be offering the Spider-Man PS4 exclusive as one of the free PS Plus games for June 2020, and while that is still possible, it seems more likely that it would save Spider-Man to headline a different month.

In the meantime, PS Plus subscribers can still download May's free games until Monday, June 1. June 2 will see the proper release of the free PS Plus games for June 2020, whatever they may be. besides Call of Duty: WW2. Fans will likely find out this coming Wednesday, May 27, and should stay tuned for more information.
