The month of August is just days away, and as such, the new free games to come from both Xbox Live's Games with Gold and PSN's PlayStation Plus have been revealed. Microsoft took charge this time and already detailed the free games they're offering next month, meaning Sony's own announcement wouldn't be too far behind.

Sony revealed the upcoming games on the PlayStation Blog earlier today, and the new set of free games will become available next Tuesday. Similar to July's offering, it's a decent selection - although August's lineup may have a few more recognizable games split across PS4, PS3, and the PS Vita.

As is the case every month, however, the impending release of the new PS Plus games means that last month's games will go back behind a pay wall. So, anyone that hasn't grabbed Rocket League, Entwined or the rest should consider doing so before time's up - especially Rocket League, which has been making big waves recently.

Starting with the PS4, PS Plus members have the opportunity to grab Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, Limbo, Sound Shapes and Stealth Inc. 2: A Game of Clones.

Temple of Osiris is a followup to 2010's Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, and once again finds Lara on another supernatural-filled adventure, full of dangerous puzzles and treasure. Like its predecessor, it also supports co-op play for 2-4 players.

Limbo, meanwhile, is a single-player puzzle-platformer with one of the most terrifying spider encounters of recent memory, while Sound Shapes is almost the complete opposite experience, as it allows players to craft music and combine it with more platforming gameplay.

Stealth Inc 2 rounds out the PS4 list, which is yet another game set in the platforming genre. Players take on the role of a clone that has to escape a "sinister and high-tech testing facility" which is comprised of over 60 levels.

The PS4 getting four of the six games to itself seems a bit unfair, but thanks to cross-buy, both Sound Shapes and Stealth Inc 2 will be available to PS3 and PS Vita owners. In fact, between August's free games, the PS4 and PS3 get four games each, while the Vita gets three. It's nice to see that fans of Sony's handheld haven't been abandoned, as they're a loyal bunch.

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris Review

The last two games to be offered next month are God of War: Ascension and Castlestorm. Unsurprisingly, God of War is a PS3 title, but Castlestorm is playable on both the PS3 and PS Vita - once again, thanks to the always-useful cross-buy.

So, to recap, August's PS Plus games are as follows:

PlayStation 4

  • Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris
  • Limbo
  • Sound Shapes
  • Stealth Inc. 2: A Game of Clones

PlayStation 3

  • Sound Shapes
  • Stealth Inc. 2: A Game of Clones
  • God of War: Ascension
  • Castlestorm

PlayStation Vita

  • Sound Shapes
  • Stealth Inc. 2: A Game of Clones
  • Castlestorm
