Ryan Reynolds seems to be most in his element when making meta-commentary about one of his upcoming movies, whether it be reacting to his own trailer as Deadpool or maybe something less expected. In the case of the latest Free Guy promo, that unexpected thing involves having his head digitally pasted onto a super buff body to create a terrifying uncanny valley monstrosity while he pretends like it's no big deal. Well, it is a big deal, Mr. Reynolds, and now people will have to live the rest of their lives knowing they've seen the tiny face of fear.

Apparently just making what many are calling a very good video game movie with Free Guy wasn't enough on its own for Reynolds. The eternal overachiever has now decided to expose all the unsuspecting viewers out there to a short video featuring himself as yet another character in the upcoming film. But he also felt the need to go one step further and tack on an admittedly pretty funny faux behind-the-scenes segment.

Posted on Reynolds' Twitter account, the video first shows off a few scenes of his new character Guy. Created by Taika Waititi's character Antoine, it seems as though Guy is a tweaked version of Reynolds' character, who is himself apparently a video game NPC who has become self-aware. The only difference is that Guy is ridiculously ripped, and is also not fully programmed quite yet (his catchphrase is "catchphrase"). It looks like exactly the kind of thing one could expect from a movie involving both Reynolds and Thor: Love and Thunder director Waititi, which somehow doesn't make it that much less uncomfortable to watch.

Reynolds then added his own little twist on the video, playing things out as if this isn't just a CGI nightmare and he actually is that buff. "To win an Oscar, it helps to drastically and dangerously alter your body," he posted in the Tweet. "I'm going to bench press the entire f***ing Academy on August 13th." The video proceeds to show Reynolds going about his day as an average everyday beefcake, describing how he got so muscular and detailing little aspects of his life such as how his daughter was born fully grown and already wearing shoes.

Is it weird? Yes. Is it kind of creepy? Arguably. Will it inspire people to go see the Free Guy out of morbid curiosity? Most definitely. Reynolds may not have a flawless track record when it comes to films, but his meta-humor and hilarious performances are usually more than enough to justify a viewing. Plus, as mentioned earlier, Free Guy seems to be raking in a modest amount of positive reactions so far.

So hey, maybe give Free Guy a watch. Don't worry, swole Reynolds can't hurt anyone. He's just in the movie (and maybe in a few nightmares afterward). Though it might be a good idea to never, ever see this movie in 3D.

Free Guy will release in theaters on August 13th, 2021.
