The beloved comedic actor Fred Willard, whose career has spanned 50 years, passed away on Friday at age 86. The news was revealed by the late actor's daughter, Hope, who tweeted out the news, saying that her father has died peacefully on Friday evening. Willard's final project was with Netflix's upcoming show Space Force, where he played the role of Fred Naird.

The actor is known for his various iconic roles in films such as Best in Show and The Mighty Wind. In television, Willard is known for his roles in Modern Family, New Girl, Everybody Loves Raymond, and many more. Throughout his career, Willard was nominated four times at the Emmy Awards for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series, three for his role as Hank MacDougall in Everybody Loves Raymond, and one as Frank Dunphy in Modern Family.

Apart from appearing in films and television shows, Willard also lent his voice in various animated projects including the 2008 Disney-Pixar film Wall-E, and various other animated features such as Mickey and the Roadster Racers, Plane: Fire & Rescue, The Cleveland Show, and many more. In a tribute to the actor, Willard's agent, Michael Eisenstadt said to Deadline, "Fred truly enjoyed every role and gave each performance his own spin. He was truly a comedic genius."
