Microsoft and Playground Games had a surefire hit on their hands last year with the critically acclaimed racing title Forza Horizon 5. Set in Mexico with diverse biomes and an impressive number of accessibility options for all players, Forza Horizon 5 quickly went on to smash all sorts of records including the one previously set for being the biggest launch in Xbox history. While the early launch of Halo Infinite's multiplayer stole some of the playerbase away, Playground Games has continued to update the experience, further improving it and giving players things to do.

As a live service title, Forza Horizon 5 is constantly changing, from various bug fixes and other improvements made through updates, the game hasn't seen any massive expansions as of yet. However, fans were tipped off that Playground Games was about to change that as a Hot Wheels expansion leaked early on Steam. However, nothing official ever came out to confirm or deny the news, though many assumed with Microsoft's Summer showcase only days away, something could pop up there.

As it turns out, the leak was accurate as Microsoft and Playground Games officially revealed the Hot Wheels expansion through a new trailer. After showcasing all of the various nominations and awards Forza Horizon 5 had received since launch, the 4K footage immediately jumped into a race. However, instead of racing through the beautiful landscapes of Mexico, the cars were instead hitting high speeds above the ground on the familiar orange tracks many kids have linked together throughout their homes.

High above the clouds, the trailer also showcased numerous Hot Wheels inspired cars including the 2000 Hot Wheels Deora II and 2021 Hennessey Venom F. Once the Forza Horizon 5 experience launches in July, players will be able to unlock 10 Hot Wheels cars, as well as design, build, and share Hot Wheels adventures with other players. In fact, the trailer confirmed that there are 80 distinct and swappable pieces in total to work with.

In the meantime, Forza Horizon 5's success has not gone unnoticed by Microsoft. While Playground Games continues to plug away at the new reboot of Fable, it appears that another team has already begun looking into Forza Horizon 6. Recently, fans discovered new job listings for a Level Designer that seemed to point at another Horizon title thanks to a description highlighting whitebox environments for an upcoming AAA title.

Forza Horizon 5: Hot Wheels launches on July 19, 2022 for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
