Playground Games has a lot to celebrate this holiday season. Forza Horizon 5, the studio's first release for the Xbox Series X/S platform, has been a staggering success. Xbox says that it's the biggest Xbox release of all time, played by over 10 million in its launch week. Now Playground has a new round of reasons to celebrate, because Forza Horizon 5 is being lauded in 2021's Game of the Year awards across the industry. With that in mind, Playground is sharing the celebration with Forza Horizon 5 players with a special gift.
This past week Forza Horizon 5 received a Game of the Year award from IGN, which proved the key award that drove Playground Games into celebration mode. IGN also rewarded Forza Horizon 5 with awards for Noteworthy Advancement in Accessibility, Best Audio Design, and Best Sports/Racing Game. It was enough for Playground to decide to want to celebrate with its player base.
Forza Horizon 5 players who log in today will see that they've received a special message and gift from the development team. The message, found in the News tab, mentions Forza Horizon 5 winning IGN's Game of the Year award, before thanking its community that "supports us every day." With that in mind, Playground is granting 5 Super Wheelspins to all Forza Horizon 5 players. These can be claimed and spun from the Gifts menu in players' messages.
5 Super Wheelspins isn't necessarily a major reward for Forza Horizon 5 players. 15 random prizes, most of which will likely be currency, is nice but unlikely to impact any player's experience meaningfully. With that said, Playground being able to drop an impromptu reward into the game for Forza Horizon 5 players to celebrate an unexpected event is worth acknowledging in a positive way. The team could certainly have done nothing, after all.
To its credit, Playground doesn't give out such rewards often. Wheelspins are handed out once or twice a week for an occasion. Super Wheelspins are rarely handed out. To give out 5 Super Wheelspins is likely a first. Perhaps that shows just how excited Playground is to be recognized as a Game of the Year award winner.
