Among the list of new games coming to Xbox consoles, Forza Horizon 5 provides fans with one of the best looks at the powerful hardware of the Xbox Series X. In a recent update, the developers gave gamers a first look at the 11 new biomes coming to the game at launch.

The intent of the developers is to make these biomes feel as varied as possible. To achieve this goal, they chose Mexico as the setting for Forza Horizon 5. According to Mike Brown, Creative Director of Forza Horizon 5, "Mexico is almost like the whole world in one country." As a result of the country's large size and diverse regions, the game offers players the opportunity to traverse through all sorts of unique environments from tropical coastlines to dense jungles. There is even a volcano that players can drive to the top of and take a look at the game's impressive horizon.

The full list of new biomes are as follows:

  • Canyon
  • Tropical coast
  • Rocky coast
  • Farmland
  • Arid hills
  • Jungle
  • Sand desert
  • Living desert
  • Volcano
  • Swamp
  • Guanajuato

In addition to these 11 unique biomes, Forza Horizon 5 features seasons that impact the way that certain biomes look and interact with drivers. Each biome is impacted differently by the seasons. One example of the game's changing environments based on the current season is found in the Arid Hills biome. During the winter season, a lake found in the area dries up creating an alternate path for racers to access. Changes like this one should help ensure that players will have a reason to return to previously explored locations.

The Forza Horizon series has been a showcase for next-level graphics. This newest installment in the franchise looks to be no different. It boasts real-time raytracing along with weather systems that change depending on where the player is in the game world. Furthermore, the developers used photogrammetry data to recreate the real locations found in the biomes in precise detail.

This news showcases the power of the Series X along with some impressive visuals for one of its upcoming games.  While Forza Horizon 5 won't be coming to PS5, Sony does have its own exclusive racing game in the works. Gran Turismo 7 a Sony exclusive launches in 2022. Despite not having the same type of off-road racing on display as in Forza Horizon 5, it will be interesting to see how both of these titles fair once they release. Regardless, fans of racing games have a lot to be excited about moving forward.
