Forza 3 Ultimate Collection Wants to Crash the Gran Turismo 5 Party

Racing sim fans are practically frothing at the mouth in anticipation of Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo 5, the latest installment for the crème de la crème of racing games that actually makes you use the brakes. However, in an attempt to remind everyone that Sony’s exclusive racer isn’t the only game in town, it looks like Microsoft could be releasing the Forza 3 Ultimate Collection just in time to rain on GT5’s parade.

While this new version of Forza 3 has yet to be confirmed, a new listing bearing the “Ultimate Collection” stamp has appeared on the Australian OFLC ratings board website. With Gran Turismo 5 expected to finally be released this November for PS3, it's a pretty safe bet that an official announcement for this ultimate collection of Forza 3 goodness should be on its way.

Forza 3 has already had two versions released at retail and a handful of DLC on Xbox Live, so it wouldn’t be too big of a leap to speculate that an edition that bears the title of “ultimate” would come packaged with a healthy helping of either the digital and/or physical goodies that we’ve already seen released for the game. The chance of the new version coming with some previously unreleased extras may not be totally out of the question either.

Microsoft knew this day would be coming. It's not surprising that they are trying to do something to rekindle some interest in their game in an effort to compete for our holiday dollars. It's a pretty uphill climb though, as Forza 3 will have already been out for over a year come November and Gran Turismo 5 is a game that fans have been waiting years to get their hands on. I think Microsoft’s best bet to win this battle is to hope that Polyphony Digital misses another release window.

What do the racing Ranters have to say? Will Forza 3 Ultimate Collection have any impact at all on the franchise that defines the genre, or will Gran Turismo 5 run laps around the competition - no matter what anyone tries?
